overheat problem with large HID lights?

guys this is a newbie question here. i come to cpf to learn about high-power LED lights, then soon found out that there are even brighter HID lights available. ppl are talking 35w, 50w, and even more with HID search light. amazing how much lumen they generate, how do they deal with the huge amount of heat that HID generate? i know some 10w LED lights are pretty picky about heat sink and their driver can lower it's drive current when temperature goes too high. could somebody shine some light on how the big HID guns avoid the overheating problem? many thanks

A HID bulb doesn't need to be heat sunk like the incandescent bulbs they replace they're made to run hot, think of the light bulbs in your house. Quite often a lower wattage HID will replace an incandescent bulb of a higher wattage in a lantern mod and generates less heat than the original bulb, for more light output.

thank you. i saw some HID dive lights (10w~30w) which are specified as "water use only" by their manufacturers. maybe they have a smaller light head profile?
