I was wondering if anyone might be interested in the possibility of making a new head for a brass Peak CR123 light. Possibly something like a 3 watt replacement in brass? Since they aren't planning on making them available until Fall, and not knowing how the quality of the LED's will be, it might prove to be a popular item. I would be willing to let you use mine as a guinea pig and pay for the head if it turns out to be feasible. If you need to see a picture of how the head is made, there's one in the review section. Any thoughts on it?

That light looks a whole lot like one that I made for my father. I take it that the LEDs are contained in a threaded pill that is removeable. If they are, this would indicate to me that what you are asking for is doable. The question is, "is it practical?" This could cost quite a bit in comparision to other mods. It is likely that a pill/sink would need to be made to accommodate the LED and circuit and a head would need to be made to accomodate a collimator of some sort. I'd go with a reflector. What is the outside diameter of the light?
Chop- the OD of the body is .750 right below the head. The major dia. of the threads on the head is .700. Yes, the head is a 1 piece affair, with the LED's and all the components tucked inside, sort of tlike the Arc AAA or AA series. Here's a couple of pics from the review:

Yea, definitely doable. Where'd you get the light? On the one that I made for my father, I turned a reflector down to do the collimating and the whole light was .75" diameter, so I don't see that this would be a problem. Of course, you could go with a bit bigger head and make a head that will accomodate either a PR or an IMS 27mm reflector and turn it into a pocket scorcher.
The light came straight from Peak LED solutions. The head now is about .780, I'd like to keep it about .825 or smaller to keep it clean. Another option might be to use the existing head to keep the machining/material cost down but i'm not sure how you'd get a lens to fit. Let me know what you think would be the best way to go with it and what you think it might cost to do it if you have time.
