I’ve been lurking on and off on this board for a little while, but I’m still pretty new to the world of flashlights. But thanks to this forum, I found the wonders of xenon bulbs, LED lights and lots of things to spend my money on. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have a question about the Pelican M10. I just picked one up recently and I’ve owned a UKE SL4 for quite a while now. I did a search on this forum and the opinions on the M10 have been pretty lukewarm, with narrow beam being the main complaint. On the other hand, the UKE SL4 seems to be pretty well thought of here. I compared the two and found that the beam of the Pelican was definitely whiter and although slightly smaller, basically the same as the UKE. The brightness was about the same to me.

Any reason why people prefer the UKE SL4 over the Pelican M10? I have to say that the SL4 is more practical to carry for me because of its compact shape and the M10 gives me that wannabe cop look. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Alan,

I prefer my SL4 for its wider (though still quite narrow) beam and comfortable shape. Have you done a side-by-side runtest comparison with all fresh same-brand batteries? Doing that, plus carrying the M10 for a while should help you make your decision.

Hello Alan L,

Welcome.

I use my UK SL4 in my kayak and the main features are long throw and good water resistance. This light seems to work well in both cases.

Thanks for the advice! I was out of fresh C-cells so I compared the beams using the set of batteries that came with the new M10 in both flashlights. With the new C-cells, the SL4 did have a slightly wider beam than the M10 and the whiteness of the beams were about the same. I think both are very good lights, but most likely I'll be carrying the SL4 more mainly because of its size.
