I received a new Pelican M8 LED today and immediately stuck in three new C's and went about pla - er - testin' it out.
It is a good sized light with octagonal sides molded into its polymer body, comfortable to hold and relatively light compared to the Maglite 2D which it approximates in size:
Here it is all unscrewed apart:
Comes with a handy slide-in battery tray:

The bar looks like black plastic like the rest of the light, but it is cold to the touch and is actually made from aluminum. And notice the wire tape used for easy assembly as well as a very clean appearance with no loose wires hanging out. The LED is glued on with a gray-colored adhesive, most likely some kind of metal-infused epoxy for enhanced thermal transfer.
It makes a very well defined, laser-like beam that is squarish in form. No sidesppill whatsoever, but it did illuminate trees quite clearly about 75 yards away.
Here's a wall beam shot from eight feet away (M8 on right of course) against a Brinkman Legend 2AA w/MM+ W/O and Q3J emitter through a Fraen Low Profile optic:
And on the ceiling at an angle, about 20 feet up:
It's no slouch either in the lux readings department:
That's 2,310 lux, hoo boy. The advantages of a tightly collimated beam are obvious, and makes this a good back up light in the car for when you really have to look far into the distance at night. Runs on cheap common batteries, too.
With a nice white beam this looks to be a good one, especially at its price point (mid-$50's)...
