hi all
im just wondering if anyone can give me some ideas.
i have a petzl zoom with the focusing beam and ive also just been given a 6volt 4ah sealed lead acid battery.
now can i put both of these together to make something better than just using the petzl on its own,
i want the headlamp for fishing up to 5/6 hrs at a time and could do with it being brighter if possible
thanks

hehe ...just been given a 6volt 4ah sealed lead acid battery.
Sorry Major but before going any further I suggest you check the battery
for voltage under load, runtime under load.

Lots of info in CPF on SLA batteries and their temperamental characteristics

You may have been used instead of a handy battery recycle disposal dumpster.

But its a workable idea. Say you put a connector in the headlamp power cable so it
can still be used with the original battery pack or disconnected and plugged into
the remote 6volt SLA via a long cable to a belt pack/carrier. Simple and effective.

if i connect it to my headlamp would the bulb be ok or should i change for a better one,
sorry and all that but ive got no idea when it come to volt amps and stuff but i know how to solder and stuff,i just need to know how to do it

If the battery was recharged regularly over its entire life its fine but if
there was any 6month period when it just sat its got damage and reduced
capacity. thus the need to test it. Could be ok enough for your use though.
Do you have a charger for the SLA? Smart charger that cuts off when the battery is full? Trickle charges then? Or dumb charger?

Question: will it maintain output voltage under load (petzl zoom)
-1. replace the 4.5volt Petzl Zoom bulb with a 6volt bulb before you
connect this SLA 6 volt battery. Buy spare 6volt bulbs.
0. get some alligator clip test leads (jumper test wires with clips) or some wire.
1. Get/buy a volt meter.
2. measure the battery voltage with no load? At full charge?
3. measure the battery voltage with a load (petzl) Still over 5volts?
And after 1,2,3,4, 5 hours still over 5 volts?
You'll know then if the SLA is still good.

Keeping it simple why not just put a 6volt bulb in the Petzl Zoom and connect
a suitable length of 2 wire cable from the SLA battery to the contacts inside the Zoom's battery holder.( solder em on) Notch the cover so it'll close if needed.
Done!

thanks for the help m8 i'll now see what happens,i dont think the battery has been used for some time so maybe its not that good ,but i'll see
thanks again regards
