To tide me over Christmas until the Arc-LS makes its debut I bought a Photon II and replaced the LED with a flashing red LED from Maplin (http://www.maplin.co.uk) code UK37. It will run from a 2032 or 2x2016. The 2032 is dimmer but I guess it will run much longer. Now I have a little flashing light that I can leave on all night and is dead groovy in the pub (if a little sad

They come in a standard 5mm package and have a built-in regulator and flashing circuit and can run off a wide voltage range. These seem under used and don't appear to have been mentioned here before. Has anyone else used these LEDs before?

Most Radio Shack stores offer two, sometimes three different flashing LEDs.
A 700nm diffused red, a 565nm diffused yellow-green, and a 565nm transparent yellow-green. None are particularly bright, but they can be connected in series with a bright blue or green on a 6v battery, and the attached LED will blink in unison.
I've used these to blink a blue LED in a computer case. The red was just left inside the case where it wasn't visible; but later I felt all bad and drilled a hole for it to poke its head through as well.

It does say somewhere in the bible that you aren't supposed to hide lights.

What a nifty idea. I'd have never of thought of that. Thanks. Humm, now how to fit a red and a blue into the Photon case...
