And no, this isn't a joke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif.
I'm wondering if it makes sense to use the Photon 3 electronics to control a Luxeon. Obviously it wouldn't fit in the Photon case or use the Photon coin cells. The idea is to put the Photon guts along with a 123 cell and a Madmax (or equivalent) into a copper or Al tube with a Luxeon, with the Luxeon gated by a mosfet controlled by the LED output from the Photon. The body tube would be sort of like the "Pocket Penny" from another thread, maybe slighly squished or with a groove filed on the inside to make a little space alongside the cell. The Madmax, Luxeon, and mosfet would be at one end, and the Photon (with its microswitches) would be mounted into/on the cap at the other end. A bit of magnet wire lacquered into the groove inside the tube would send the control signal to the Mosfet. This would give you a tiny little Luxeon light, complete with PWM power control, blinking modes, auto-off, all the features of the Photon III.
Crazy? Practical? Suggestions of other construction methods? For real madness, maybe the Photon could go into the space from a 2C Maglite's pushbutton, and run a 5 watt Luxeon powered by three 123's. In honor of Mr. Bulk it could be called a "Cyberspace Needle". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Any thoughts?
