/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gifHi i just signed up to see if anyone can help me out. i did the pot modification in the "how to modify a 5mw lead light" but after that it was bright but then it kept going dim until i touched the pot again with the screwdriver. i kept doing it and now it doesnt work at all but nothing seems to have come off or snapped. i dont want to take it apart before i get some advice from the experts. i will try anything to fix it cos i cant afford another one! please can anyone help me or have a guesss what i may have done wrong?

thanks

Sound like you've turned the pot too far into the 'dead zone' - just turn it back a notch and you'll have green /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The quick flashes of power when you touch the pot is because you are shorting the case with the top of the pot and bypassing the resistance.

Thanks it worked for about 2 minutes and went out again and i hadnt touched it that time. i'll try it again. is it possible to tune the pot far enough for it to come apart just in case i am doing? thanks a lot for your help

its not working at all now and im sure ive tuned the pot in every position possible. any other suggestions please?

Hmmm. Could this be the first diode to die from a pot mod?/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crackup.gif

Yes i know, its not really the cause, but shorting the pot is.

I dunno... it's been my experience that most diodes will handle far more than a pot short to kill it... I'm wondering if it's something else that's shorting somewhere. Without opening it up and taking pics it'd be hard to tell from here on the forum...

Fond the problem. not only had i tuned the pot out i had broken the switch as well by pressing it in too hard. thanks a lot everyone for helping
