please help me find my new reading lamp!

hi all.

i am looking for a very small very stylish very high quality adjustable desk lamp(not a table lamp).

it must be less than 600 lumens. and the most important thing is that it outputs a very good rendition of real high noon daylight! 5000k or so with blue filter plus uv.
it must also run at less than 100 degrees f. on all external surfaces.

i tried a mr16 based lamp, great light but dangerously hot for my use. tried a bipin jc based lamp and the light quality is poor. the happyeyes is all plastic(not stylish or high quality). the larger sharperimage unit with the happyeyes bulb has good light(for cfl) but is way to big.

anyways i'd rather stick with low voltage filtered halogen.
i really feal that regardless of what manufacturers say that cfl just can't match sunlight as well as filtered halogen. does anyone make a 5w luxeon with ac transformer? that would be perfect! i wanna buy this in like the next 4 days or so if i can. please mention a brand/model of something that fits my bill that is available at retail outlets in the usa!

The best CFLs are much better at matching sunlight than Luxeons. A Luxeon is fine if you're looking for light that is similar to sunlight. The deep reds are what you'll mainly lack as compared to the better CFLs. Compared to filtered halogen, a Luxeon will give you about 3 times the efficiency but a CFL will do six to eight times better than the incandescent (or 2 to 3 times better than the Luxeon).

If you want to wait five years you should have your Luxeon that matches the CFL in efficiency and color rendering. The warm white Luxeon currently has better color rendering than the regular white, but at reduced efficiency. And 3200K isn't what you're looking for anyway.

thanks, i actually found my light. it is a happyeyes modified by sharper image. mainly it just has a nice looking case where the real happyeyes is plastic. it was a way bigger light then i wanted but i made room. output is very pretty. certainly puts yellow tungsten to shame.

i saw a cfl that is 3500k and claims to be full spectrum.
it complains on it's own box that it is not a real daylight bulb(6500k it references). this bulb is very white but does not look nearly as blue when it shines on chalk white objects. i guess there is no wrong bulb. it depends on what the user likes for the application i guess.
since there some options for the base i have in this i think i'll try them all.

It might be a little big for what you need. I have one, hanging from a drop cord type socket, over my desk. It throws an awesome white light. It's supposed to use about 22 watts. It's kind of pricey, but so cool!
I have some small reflector type flourescent bulbs that are pretty good too. I found them at Walmart.
