Re: Will it hurt a 30mw laser to hold out of car?

I don't know how wicked modifies his lasers but unless he's removing the window from the beam aperture there shouldn't be any problem with the wind.

There are other potential problems though. What happens when you hit that street sign with the reflective surface that sends most of the energy back into your eyes? Or what happens when you accidently hit a person walking along the road or an oncoming car? THe wind won't hurt it, but the crash when the guy swerves blindly into your lane certainly would...

a lot of cities or states now also have laws about shining just laser pointers around. For example in lots of places it's illegal to shine one at a police officer and they will arrest you (I know someone this happened to in Wisconsin) So if that oncoming car happens to be a police officer you're going to get taken downtown /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

So I'd have to say that it's a really bad idea, but the wind won't hurt it any. Course, when you drop it out the window after dazzling yourself not realizing just how well those street signs reflect, that is likely to damage it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Very foolish indeed! With this and similarly irresponsible laser-related questions popping up here so often, it's only a matter of time before they will be completely illegal and, in countries like Canada at least, no longer available at all. This is a very popular public forum, so no doubt well-read by some in authority. Such stupidity would be better revealed only to other likeminded idiots. Sorry for being so direct, but after the "pointing at aircraft" thread, followed by an actual incident, I've absolutely no patience for this nonsense.

I still wouldn't do it, just like I wouldn't shoot a gun out of a moving car at 65mph even if there was nobody around.

Re: Will it hurt a 30mw laser to hold out of car?

so now there will be singes on those street signs along the side of the road in addition to all the bullet holes /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Will it hurt a 30mw laser to hold out of car?

Please try to understand. It's not me you need to explain yourself to. Others read these forums besides CPF members. Think of how those responsible for enforcement of lasers, etc. might interpret such discussions as the "aircraft" one, closely followed by an incident where flight crew was injured. Many are simply looking for any excuse to control others. Let's not be giving them even a hint of such on this very visible forum. Act responsibly for the sake of everyone then, if you can't help yourself, stupidly in the company of those so inclined. I wasn't the brightest myself when young and reckless, but those days of misspent youth are well passed now. Each must learn for themselves, it seems. Admonishment was not the real point behind my previous post.
