Hi, I just joined and also got a SF 8NX for home use.

My sister-in-law's husband just finished basic training and will work as an Army Chaplain. His group (sorry, I'm not familiar with military terms in English) is scheduled to Irag deployment in late December.

He is a little depressed now and I want to give him a Christmas gift something he can use in Iraq. I think a small flashlight will be good for him.

So far, I like the Pelican M6 LED. I guess he wouldn't need something just bright as SF's. LED's shock-proof and longer battery life seem to be more important than sheer high-output.

Anyway, I wanted ask you guys about your recommendation.
Oh, my budget is max $60.

Thanks,

Matt.

Only slightly over your budget but look at a longbow micra, a cracking little led light. Well built and well packaged, it would make a fine Christmas gift.

Pelican M6 LED. Has the performance of flashlights that are much more expensive--beam quality as good as Surefire.

Weak areas: doesn't have 3HA finish. No regulation.

IMO, despite the weak areas, this is the absolutely best $45 luxeon flashlight you will find.

Did we ever find out if C123 batteries are available in the Sandbox? I would think that he needs a light that uses standard batteries, AA or D size.

The streamlight Jr LED (2xAA) at $20-$25 should be a good light

I don't think a Chaplain would need a tactical light. I would recommend a small headlamp that uses LEDs and AAA batteries. Much more useful than a tactical light. The Energizer LED Head Beam (Two White One Red LED) is working well for a young Marine over there. Also a Dorcy three LED / one AA or Five LED two AA would be good too. Plus you should be able to pick all of the lights locally. You can order a red flip up filter from Surefire, it fits the Dorcy lights. I sent one of those on top of a Dorcy 2 AA / 5 LED to an Army Captain in Afganistan. PM6 LED is a great light but over kill for anything more than combat duty. Over there too much light can get you hurt.

I can tell you my friends are having a tough time getting cr123a batteries in Iraq.

Welcome to CPF!

first of all WELCOME TO CPF!!! glad to have you aboard. i believe roy is right, the cr 123 batteries might be hard to replace or even impossible. but if the 123 batteries are ok, the new inova T-2 is supposed to have a 5+ hour burn time. also the inova x5t has a great run time on 2x123 batteries, but does not have the throw of the pelican M-6 led. it is more of a flood light. a great compromise would be , like roy mentioned, the streamlight jr, or maybe the new XM-3 by elektrolumens. it is on presale right now for $39.99+ shipping. both of these light use AA batteries and the elektrolumens is ha-34 anodized i believe. good luck and , again great to have you here!!!
