Hi all,

I would appreciate recommendations for an online or by phone dealer for GPS. Dunno much about this area, so if you have a reliable, fair-priced outfit, please post.

In particular, I'm interested in either the Garmin 60CS or the Garmin 76CS, in stock, ready to ship from a dealer.

I'm not sure how many GPS's they stock, but I purchased my last one at www.eCost.com with no problems. They had the best price around (including shipping) and great service. It might be worth checking out.

Is it me or does it seem like price fixing is damn near the accepted norm these days?
 
I don't know if this is price fixing or just that the lowest prices are cutting close to their margins- There are prices that are higher; it's only the lowest-price figures that seem to all be the same. Gamin has that Minimum Advertised Price policy, but it doesn't seem to mean much except for one extra click of the mouse.

I'll second GPS Now. P/U a Garmin 176c most recently and other units there.

I appreciate all input and recommendations.

It is funny with the MAP, some places you have to put it in your cart, others you just click on a button, and still others put the "real" price in a drop-down menu. Then there's the array of shipping options, too. But people always find a way to do business.

Being that I'm teetering on the possibility of switching off from my 2610 to something new, what are the significant differences between the 60C and the 76C, beyond the memory size and the different form factor? The 76C seems to have a more marine bent, but are they both similarly capable for automotive, autorouting use? Wondering if it might be worth the extra for the 76C..
 
My impression is that the difference between them is memory and the form factor (the 76C floats as well). It seems like the basemap is a bit more marine related on the 76C model and the 76C also has tide calculations. I believe they have similar capabilities regarding automotive, autorouting use.

Not having either (BTW, leaning towards GPSdiscount at the moment due to availability) they are quite similar, but as Spectre (thanks for the post) points out, the 76CS has twice the memory of the 60CS (115MB over 56MB), it's also heavier (7.6oz vs. 5.4oz), the layout is different, and while both are waterproof, I'm not sure the 60CS floats, while the 76CS lit says it does.

Well, floating isn't really an issue for me, and I'd prefer the lighter (though the weights may be closer because one was specified with batteries and the other without) and smaller unit, if there's no other compelling differences. I think 56M would be fine for my purposes, particularly since it has the USB interface to make map loading less agonizing than the GPS V was.
The 60C may feel effectively much smaller than the dimensions indicate, since it's got that rounded shape to it, so I'd like that better.
