I posted this in general flashlights and
in met with no enthusiasum at all. Maybe
people who have enjoyed the ease of clip
carry with their knives will get as fired
up about this as I am. Just imagine a
light as easy to carry as your Spyderco
or CRKT!!! What do you guys think?

post follows:

Pocket clips have revolutionized the
way knives are carried! Why can't it
improve our EDC flashlights.
I'm thinking a 2AAA cell light, side
by side like the UK 2AAA led. It could
be a little longer (3 1/4"). The flat
shape would make it ride in the pocket
better than a cylinder. It would have
to have a good sturdy stainless steel
clip just like a Spyderco.

I really want this to happen the more
I think about it. I just lost my Arc AAA
from the watch pocket in my jeans...!!!

on some lights it might be useful, such as the Arc AAA or AA or other single diameter barrelled lights. However, on multiple diameter lights, such as the E2E, i find a clip less useful and more cumbersome. I want to carry everything down IN my pockets, not with the head sticking out above the pocket rim. besides, i personally like to carry lights bezel down.
i think clips work better on knifes b/c they are slimmer. i know i can tell a difference b/w my Spyderco endura I and native III (which is much thicker). with a round batteried light, i less enthusiastic.
i mentioned in another thread several months ago i see lights becoming more ergonomic. by this i meant more user friendly in shape as opposed to a simple round body (which is pretty versitile). a flat, slender light could be very useful, esp w/ a pocket clip.

isnt the LS4 going to have a clip?

That's exactly what I am saying.
We need a light built from the
ground up to be carried comfortably
and securely with a clip.
2AAA 5mm led, flat shape.

I could not agree more and I have flogged this topic to death in the early days of CPF. The ONLY reason I carry a SF E2 is the clip. I think SF has become very overpriced and why SOMEONE doesn't make a competitive 6V light with a clip is beyond me. Streamlight, Arc, Pelican - anybody. Even a plastic body with a clip would be good. I prefer clips because they pull things up out of the pocket and it is easier to move around. I also clip knives/lights in different places depending on what I am doing - motorcycle riding for example, I clip my light on my jacket for ease of carry and reach. One huge advantage to clips I have found over the last ten years is that I almost never lose a clip knife. If I can't find it, it will turn up clipped in place on some piece of clothing.

I have said this several hundred times already, but when our Comrades in China start turning out 6V clip lights, things may change price wise on this side of the ocean.

I like the idea of a side-by-side AAA with a clip. About the size of a zippo lighter but a little longer and not quite so wide.

The UK 2AAA 1LED has sort of the form factor (and the good clip) you want, although it has a narrow focused spot beam that I never warmed up to. It also is a little bit more bulky than necessary.

I agree with DieselDave. Someone should make this. I nominate Arc. Second choice, Dorcy.

Yes I have this light and it close to the form factor,
but the clip does not face the correct way for pocket
carry.

The light you want is the Princeton Tec Blast. There are several reviews of it in the reviews section. It's 2AAA, cigarette lighter sized, and has a very nice, sturdy, integral molded clip that rides in your pocket just fine. It carries bezel up so the clip also works as a hatbrim clip. It's not LED but a small xenon light, sort of a poor man's Surefire E1. A few different LED mods have been done for it but I like it just fine as an incandescent. It runs nicely on NiMH AAA's too.

As for 2x123 lights, the Streamlight TL2 has a pretty good clip, and also has a spare bulb inside the light, making it nicer than the Surefires in that regard. It's a little bit bigger than an E2, but smaller than a 6P.

I'd love to see a nice broad and flat pocket clip on the Eternalights. They're pager shaped to start with, so a clip is a natural. Maybe even a pager stype pivoting spring clip.
