First of all, I must thank Hotbeam for the Hotlips and the original design of the PocketMate series of lights, George for the awesome Fatman converter, and modamag for bringing us the components we needed to make this happen.

Mine's a "V", because the Luxeon is a rare VW0T. I believe there were only 15 of these offered and the majority went to CPFers, which I'm glad /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

More information on the construction of the Pocketmate can be had from its creator. Basically, it's a variable power LuxV light running off a 18650 lithium ion cell. And I like it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

While not quite the U2's size, it is very small to begin with anyway, and packs a whole lot of punch for its size. Before the U2 this was basically THE light to have for Luxeon V, variable power, lithium ion support. Runs off two CR123s too.

Kevin, Great Job /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy14.gif
Your clone is 18mm shorter than the original /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

At first I thought this waas on the BST. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif you just built it and selling it already. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bumpit.gif still too sleepy from last night runtime test.

Looks vaguely familiar.... Wait a minute, the 'original' PocketMate-W has the pot to the left of the switch so brightness can be changed with your thumb. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buttrock.gif Good job.

modamag: This one feels like a keeper. It's just a little bit dimmer than my "believed-to-be" X-bin U2. Bet the maximum overdrive helps too.

hotbeam: /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I can still reach it and the pot is easier to rotate with a finger than the U2's selector bezel. It really feels like a dimmer switch you use at home, to be able to smooth-scroll the output with a rotating switch. And of course it uses a Hotlips. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif (fits pewter perfectly)

MR Bulk: coming from the master of variable power Luxeon illumination, that is indeed a compliment.. thank you! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

bajaiman: That you'll have to ask George, but I'm working on the assumption that it doesn't. The moment it falls out of regulation, I'll douse the light and change batteries.
