Class 4 Funky Light

This is a very broad class. Use your imagination and don't be concerned with rules. It includes, but is not limited to: "Art" flashlights, Silly lights, Ugly lights, Flashlights built from as many non-flashlight parts as the builder can manage, non-flashlight items modified into flashlights, etc., etc.

The "Funky Light" winner will be the one that gets the most votes by members for whatever their reasons.

That's good Edd! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Can you view the results of the poll? All of them?

I can only see the first couple of questions. I made a shortcut to my desktop and I can view them in their entirety there.

Britt

EDIT: Well, once I voted I can see all the results just fine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

Nice idea Britt, I voted /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
The problem is, all the flashlights made during the contest, will be a unique one, so what's about my collection ? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi Frenchy!

I wouldn't be surprised if some of these lights wind up for sale or auction.

I'm hoping that there might be a couple atleast that some of the proceeds from a sale can be shared with CPF.

Now see, that's what I hate about all of this competition stuff. These unique lights just go up for sale in high 3 figure prices, or even higher auction sales where that damned Frenchy and his other high-roller CPF friends just out bid the little guys...it's not fair, damn it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mecry.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mecry.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mecry.gif. I won't vote on this thread as my intentions are clear from My post on the other contest thread Been there, done that; just read through the past year of CPF threads and you'll see countless mods that you can't get...doesn't interest me.

Put 3 of the each of the top vote getting mods up for raffle and you'll end up with literally thousands in the coffers for supporting this site.

Many, many more people can 'donate' by purchasing 5 or 10 raffle tickets when they atleast a have a small chance of winning one of these unique/and expensive lights if there becomes available 3 or more for a monthly raffle prize. Winners of the competition, oh to heck with them, they have their big ego's satisfied /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Hell they are already making these mods without winning any prizes, showing the pics here on CPF, making all of us little guys supremely envious, lusting for the unobtainable lights!

Of course you know even without an auction where only one person wins one light, and hence only a few hundred dollars are generated for CPF per auction; those high-rollers like Frenchy and the others who were willing to go well into the hundreds of dollars, will likewise try to favor their odds of winning as many raffle lights as possible by buying far more tickets than anyone else...you *******s/vous batards /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif. A raffle of several each of winning lights is the only way the little guy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/broke.gif has any bon chance against the likes of Frenchy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon8.gif ! And it would generate the most dollars by far for CPF. My 2cents, and waiting to buy more raffle tickets.
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/popcorn.gif (substitute French Chaubier (sp?), or raw-milk Vacheron cheese and a nice glass of Calif. Pinot Noir for popcorn).

Edit for clarity:
Disclaimer-
It has come to my attention that many times my posts that include smile graemlins/icons in the notations are not being interpreted as intended...as joking/teasing/levity/humor. If I use them in the same post with the angry/mad icons; all of you, whether English is your native language or not, should interpret this as lighthearted joking/levity/humor. No insult or personal attack has ever been intended in any of my posts. If a personal attack is intended, there would be no smile cons, not faux/faking being angry/mad icons. FrenchyLED is an asset to CPF, and he has an awesome, admirable, well deserved collection. I think most envious of, but are not jealous at all, this impressive collection of his /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

In summary /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif or /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif or /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif ==== I am just joking, poking fun, having a little bit of teasing with others, no insults intended.

Hmm, my new sig line? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Thanks, Bill. I got over my head quick with this project. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yellowlaugh.gif

Please do enter, you can always enter something whimsical in the Funky Light category. I thought about sticking my TWOL Lux III/Hotlips Esink into the mouth of a stuffed hog's head I have. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crackup.gif But, I'm just going to watch and vote.

I'm hoping that Sway and Ginseng go ahead with their idea for the Iron Torch contest.

Britt

International CPFers are more than welcome to submit entries.

Prizes will be shipped free of charge to all winners including International winners.

I've edited the rules to indicate this.

Two of the 1st Place prizes for two classes have been arranged.

1. $50.00 shopping certificate at The Sandwich Shoppe.

2. $50.00 shopping certificate at The Battery Station.

Remember, free shipping. Vendors choice of shipping. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Britt

PS: I don't know if I made it clear that CPFers that submit entries will be able to vote as well.

I think that's a great idea... when i saw the auctions for supremely cool lights like the particular VIP skyrocket... it made me think something along the same lines....

Some of the lights i'm sure couldn't be auctioned off for various reasons, but what about a raffle vs. an auction... i think that would be incredible. Even if it wouldn't necessarily bring the best profit, if it could bring some true awesome firepower into the hands of people who'd not in their lifetimes otherwise achieve.

That in-mind... uda and others... you could pull off some amazing things, more than you'd think... I combined a LiOH battery DD with a LUX3 and got a 355mA light.. 1.2W at the emitter... and slap that combo on a heatsink of some kind in case you can buy from ®S and you can build a light that outputs more light than an ARC LS for.. lemme do that math: $20 for emitter and reflector... $5 for the battery... $13 for the charger if you don't have it.. $5-10 for case/heatsink... so.. $50 ish... not as cheap as a AAMag, but a LOT cheaper than anything that can compete with the brightness and size (that light could be about the size as a big pack of tic tacs)...

Udaman and andrewwynn, the points you bring up concerning raffles as opposed to auctions or sales may be a good subject to give a thread of its own, perhaps in The Cafe.

It is definitely not my place to tell anybody what to do with the fruit of their labor or finances.

I think the majority of people who have given their thinking on this contest, myself included, don't what this to be used as a fundraiser. So it won't be.

CPFers are a very generous bunch. The administrators and moderators of CPF are a generous bunch. CPFers have been giving and donating long before this contest and will continue to do so during it and after it.

This contest is supposed to be fun and celebrate our shared enthusiasm for Homemade and Modified Flashlights.

Telling entrants they have to raffle off their entries to raise money for CPF and insure that everybody gets a chance to own a custom light for the price of a raffle ticket just wouldn't be right.

I'll bet there'll be a raffle after the contest, but that will be a decision the individual modder makes.

Thanks for speaking your mind. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Sorry Udaman /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I want your avatar, but I can't have it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin07.gif

Udaman PM sent /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif

Here's an odd PM I received about this poll and the contest.

I looked for the option of "I couldn't care less about this contest" but couldn't find it.

Seriously, I don't care about it though...you might get slightly less biased votes if you include an option for people that couldn't care less about it -- otherwise, you don't know how many people don't have any interest.

I don't know...maybe you don't care how many people don't care.

I know one of the initial posters was being a little sarcastic, but I'm not...I'll never see any of the mods and will never own one so it just carries absolutely no interest for me whatsoever. I'd never even bother wasting money on raffle tickets for any of them.

Have fun with it though...

We've got enough interest to run with the contest. At this point, 12 have indicated an interest in submitting entries.

Since anyone can enter up until the deadline in 5 weeks, I'm thinking there will be some more.

I am thinking that June 1st would be a good date to open the contest. July 5th would be the deadline for entries. Voting could begin at midnight July 5th and run for 3 days or so and the winners announced.

Is this enough time?

Britt

Udaman will be happy, because at this date I'll be in holidays and no internet connection /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

So sorry Britt, but I can't vote /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think that me and uda were basically saying the same thing you mentioned... that it would be nice if somebody would raffle vs. auction when interest is generated... which will of course happen with a contest... and i don't think either of us were thinking it'd be a 'rule', cause that is just plain silly.

I was just trying to urge somebody perhaps toward that direction if in the future they happened into the possibility of picking either auction or raffle... it'd be such a cool thing for a 'little guy' to end up with something they will treasure.

I just built a 'light' that could certainly qualify for 'funky light'... I turned a pinewood derby car into a flashlight of sorts... wired it up for headlights and tail lights... i suppose i'll have to post a pic sooner or later.

awr, good idea!

Also, I think the Pinewood Derby light is a cool idea. Hope you enter it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Do you have an idea of when the contest will begin and end. I am curious because it affects whether or not I will be able to enter as I am going OS for most of June.

I've just sold a PR-T head that I built for the first time and I'm already considered a professional by these rules /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif A rank amateur professional though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

How does June 1st through July 19th sound?

I can open the contest with a fresh thread June 1st (tomorrow) and how about a deadline of midnight July 19th?

What is the best "midnight" to use so that it is simple for everyone to determine when that is, regardless of their time zone?

I'll make certain that all the 1st place prizes are set up for each of the 4 classes before I leave the country.

I'll be back before the deadline. If I ain't, someone else here can pick up the ball and run with it.

I'm packing up and nursing booster shots right now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sick.gif
