POP..! Thanks Guys!!

I grabbed my Fenix EO1 to check out the basement dark areas for water leakage. The head would not turn at all. I instantly knew what had happened. I put on my safety glasses & with much effort managed to unscrew the head. A loud pop ensued like opening a soda can. Sure enough the negative side of the Energiser had a glob of clear fluid on it. I used vinegar followd by alcohol to clean it throughly & works fine now. It was not subjected to heat & I use it everday yet, it still leaked on me. Thanks to all you guys for posting proper cleaning methods on the Alkalines. You saved my day!

This is why I am now investing in a big batch of LSD Ni-Mh cells as these can be abused (such as forgetting to turn of the flashlight) and are far less likely to leak. Even an in-date alkaline, left on accidentally for a few days can leak.

I keep alkalines (in-date) just in case of emergency, but keep rechargables in all my every day use lights.

I had the same thing happen to me many years ago with a Mini Maglight shooting the tail cap clear across the room. At the time the only alternative was NiCds and I never liked those. These days I stick with Lithium primaries and am looking into the LSD NiMHs.

+1 for LSD Nimh, especially if it is used in your EDC (i.e carrying it close to your body).
