Bear with me if I'm way off base here. I've never done a mod before. I've been wondering if the NB Opalec could be made to fit into the Pelican L1. I haven't seen either the Opalec or the L1 in person so I may be crazy. I can't tell if the Opalec is small enough to fit. Can anyone tell me?

If it's not feasable, can anyone think of a single cell light that could be modded? Something that will hold a AA lithium or 123 would be perfect. Thanks for your input.

Any single celled torch will require a booster circuit as LED's require between 1.8V for GaAs reds and anything up to 4V for blues and whites.
There are several people on this forum who have modded single celled torches, some of whom will be able to provide you with a booster circuit. The obvious constraint on fitting a booster to your torch is size of the circuit. A way round this would be to create some space inside your torch using an AAA cell and a spacer tube.
I have also seen single celled AA keychain torches which have quite a lot of spare internal space where a circuit could be built and maybe potted into the torch body.
Alternatively, go out and by an Infinity or something similar!

If I remember correctly the Pelican L1 uses 4 L76's or something like that. I don't know how the batteries would perform under that kind of load, but the "head" of the Opalec is about 2.5 times the diameter of the head on the L1, so without major modification it wouldn't fit.
