I came across a Skil flashlight today in a local discount store. POS 5 LED set-up, but @ $8, I figured I could use a 2xAA low power light to prevent eating into my supply of 123 primaries with a snow storm looming.

Anyway, I look it over when I get home and realize that there is fair similarity size wise to my Surefire's. Well, I look over the light and start to disassemble it, and find that that old P60L that doesn't get used any more, fits like it was made in Fountain Valley, Ca., if you overlook the gritty threads:shakehead.
Well it lights up and all but it appears to be only around 10 to 20 lumens, which is better than what was in it by far, but still rather anemic.

Will lithium AA's improve it's performance, or do I need to see Nailbender or Gene Malkoff for a better performing drop-in on 2xAA?

I don't need really bright with this body, but it would be kinda fun to see what sort of 'frankenlight' I can make outta this thing!!

Thanks in advance,

J

Its a voltage issue. A CR123 is around 3v each and a P60L is designed for 2xCR123 in series which is 6v input.

A typical alkaline is around 1.5v, NiMH @1.2v and Primary Lithiums @1.7v.

Yes, AA lithium's will improve it somewhat but 3.4v is still a bit far from 6v. :)

This doesn't include voltage sag when batteries are under load.
