Anyone that can enlighten me on the different power levels of the Baltic?
When ordering you can choose from 4 different ones.
They are as follows: XLR, HP, UP and SP.
XLR is extra long runtime or the lowest output.
HP is high power or the standard runtime which is about an hour 45 minutes from an alkaline in regulation followed by a long "tail" for the next 16 hours or so. I have the Luxeon version of the HP.
UP is ultra power and it has about 75% more output than the standard HP but really hammers an alkaline battery. Expect about an hour of regulated runtime with an alkaline or two hours or so with a NiMH AAA cell. I have a stainless steel Baltic UP with SSC LED coming in the mail in the next week as my new work light.
SP is super power which puts out more than twice as much light as the standard HP. I have a stainless steel Luxeon version that runs on the optional 2xAAA body and it is very bright...and runs quite hot from 2xAAA NiMH cells for a little over an hour.
My plan is to run the UP stainless AAA with Seoul Semiconductor LED which should be bright enough and have long enough runtimes from a single AAA NiMH cell. If it is not bright enough, I'll attach the 2xAAA stainless body to it for a screaming penlight.
I prefer the stainless for it's bomb-proof toughness, immune to bleach cleaning (keep those o-rings lubbed!) and the unique construction of the light. Robyn at Peak could probably give you an accurate runtime of the XLR version.

Re: Power levels?
Anyone know XLR brightness and runtime? (I know you mentioned emailing Robyn but the info needs to be here, getting info is horrible for peak lights. Peak should start a thread like McGizmo has for his lights.)
Thanks,
rob

Re: Power levels?
I have a Baltic HP, and also wondered about runtime. It is not as bright as a Pacifi HP, but puts out a bit more light than the Matterhorn 3LED - in a different light pattern. The center spot is smaller than the Matterhorn or Pacific, but there is a useful spill.
I wondered about runtime as well. The light is smaller on N cells. Anyone know the runtime on the N cell?

Re: Power levels?
Above Post is info from their website (cut and paste from spreadsheet I made). It has all modles and various info. I tried to format it but it changed back when I clicked submit.
I hope it is at least somewhat helpful.

Re: Power levels?
I saw the Peak display at the SHOT show this year, and I must say that the Peak folks are about as nice as can be as was one of their smaller competitors. I've got the CD from the SHOT show, but still cannot figure out for the life of me what is what. It's almost got too much info; but alas, it has little info on output and runtime tabulated for easier consumption. I'd really like to buy a Peak, since it's made in the US; but without being able to compare "relative" outputs (I use that term since we all know figures tend to be "inflated" by some) with other companies, I'm at a loss.
I really want Peak to succeed but as I see it they need better marketing (much better). It's highly inefficient to call every time I need info to make a decision and it ties them up to simply answering the phones instead of design/build - when perhaps all that was needed was better (perhaps more direct) marketing. A simple spreadsheet with the model type, length, max/min diameter, LUMEN output, battery type(and quantity/options) would suffice; but it's nowhere to be found. Please, please do something like this.
The only other thing is that it would be nice to have at least 2 output levels for even an EDC type light. I say that since if I was stranded a "blast" of high that would last 10-20 minutes would be nice to signal the passing airplane or helicopter.

Re: Power levels?
Its exactly why I ve not owned a PEAK. I m still lost as to what is available and what is good for EDC.
What is the best AAA cell light PEAK got? lumens? runtime?

Re: Power levels?
As an engineer myself, who usually has disdain for marketing folks (as most engineers do), I have to say here's a case where marketing and advertising would HELP the engineer by getting the product out. Unlike the usual function of marketing/adverts which is to promise what can't be delivered for less money than it would take if it was remotely possible in the first place.
I wonder how many more folks are like us? Want to buy, but confused.

Re: Power levels?
Hey to everyone looking for information on Peak lights. I recommend writing or calling Peak and asking for the catalog CD. It's everything the website
isn't.

Re: Power levels?
I'd recommend the Pacific over the Baltic. I have 3 Pacifics, two in brass and I just got one in HA. The Pacific with a CR2 pocket body is just 2 3/8" long (6 cm) and smaller in diameter in the body than a McKinley.
If you want small, the Matterhorn is nice in 3LED format with an ultra-power level.
My HA Baltic came with two bodies, an N cell "pocket" and a AAA keyring.
When I cleaned off the grease around the base of the head, I noticed that a nice scratch appeared - about 1/3 of the way around the head - must have had a magic marker darkening it. I got it from Peak. Seems a bit tacky to me. The thin-line scratch looked like it came from pliers on the base. It is just a white line around the bottom of the head, near the threads, but it is visible. I used some marker on it until I can get some AL blue. You shouldn't have to do this.
The output from the Pacific is much better than the Baltic when it is in 3 Volt format, even at the HP level. In addition, the Baltic doesn't put out much more light than a 3 LED Matterhorn, but is much larger than the Matterhorn. I have a Pacific in my pocket, and the Baltic sits on a nightstand.

Re: Power levels?
UncleFester,
While I know that Peak will try to answer questions, that's not my point. 1) I personally don't have time to call from work on the work phone nor can I even have a cell at work. I figure that the amount of information a spreadsheet could capture in a quick 5 minute scan would take at least 1 hour to gather over the phone. Being technically oriented, I like to see stuff "written" down, and performing my own analysis. My point is, I know I'm not alone on this. Why should I have to waste cell minutes, sneak home during lunch to call, etc, etc, etc just to get some simple information; which if somebody was to do marketing 101, would be easy to do. I'd like something like lighthound has done for Fenix lights - is that really that hard to do????
As for the CD, it's slightly less worthless than the web page, or the 2007 catalog I got at the 2007 SHOT Show is. Still nothing compiled all nice and tidy, and it's hard to compare. Hey, I'm lazy, I admit it. I don't want to come home from 10 hours programming at work, to have to write some script or something to capture data and tabulate it in a spreadsheet, simply put this is NOT my job, but the job of Peak.
Like I said earlier, I wish them the best. Robin was nice at the SHOT Show, but without some better marketing to the masses, I really don't see them ever becoming a major player, despite however good their product may be. Certainly without proper light measurement to compare with the competition and no easy way to compare even their own lights, I've about given up. I was hoping somebody from Peak would at least acknowledge this was a good idea (the spreadsheet) and say they would attempt one.
Remember, I usually hate marketing folks, but this doesn't even fall into good marketing; in fact, it's just good engineering to have a product sheet with specifications.

Re: Power levels?
I, too, am in the same boat of wanting to buy Peak products but having trouble figuring out what's what.
I would like to see added to the suggested spreadsheet:
1) what body options are available/included for the different lights; and
2) what input voltage is allowable for each.
(And I would like to see lumens listed
as well as candlepower, so we can get some vague idea about hot spot vs. spill for the various lights. Of course beamshots would be better...
)
