I have a focusable flashlight (X2000 on 18650, the one that can be found at DX for instance) and I really like the concept. I find the uniform flood very useful and pleasant to work with, while the flashlight is still very useful for long ranges. I will be pleased if anyone knows of brighter flashlights with the same capabilities.

I guess that this design involving movable parts may limit heat sinking capabilities, so it may not be possible to build a very powerful flashlight of this kind, however the X2000 emitter is a XR-E P4 and it doesn’t get very hot, so there should be some margin for brightness increase. I hope someone proves me right.

There is very little available beyond the cheapo flashlights that we see. The XP-G and even XP-E are bigger than the XR-E and thus dont focus as well, even though they are brighter overall.

Nothing else really appears in the budget section. You can get SST-50s with larger aspheric lens which does the trick but these are homebrew only.

Wolf Eyes has a few good ones, but they are expensive. See here and go down to the Night Hunter and 2 following it. http://www.wolf-eyes.com/
Even then you have to get the one with XM-L for maximum brightness.

Hi,

Led Lenser have many models. Unfortunately (for me at least) most of them are with 3-4 AAA batteries but there are several very interesting as:
- P14 8414 - 4AA, ~212lumens; amazing battery runtime. One colleague has it and it charging the batteries 1-2 times per month using daily at work!!! Cons: is relatively big.
- M7R 8307R - ~220 lumens, very good customizable interface, 18650 battery charged in the body (you don't need to remove it). Cons: is expensive but come with battery and charger and is very confortable if you are using daily at work.
- P5R 8405-R - same as M7R but smaller using 14500 battery and have ~210 lumens.

The best one I have is the romisen rc-c6, but I agree with you, I really like this type of light and wish there were more options available. Not only would I like brighter, but I wouldn't mind one with multiple modes either. The rc-c6 II from shiningbeam kinda has modes but not really.

I have been looking at the MTE M2 light fromGreg Mcgee Engineering. Not super cheap, but I understand the customer service is good. Looking to order one next week.
