has anyone tried to mount an opalec newbeam on to a pr base so that it could be used in other lights?

Am I just being stupid? Shouldn't this be a usefull item?

What's a good PR based LED drop in bulb for a 4 call Maglite and a 2 cell? Also, where are they available? Thanks.
 
yes there are pr led bulbs, but the a pr base to an opalec would give a regulated 3 led bulb unlike the rest that are just resistors.

I do not care if it is led or incandesent, if it fades over the curve, that is lame with todays technology. Regulation is the only way to go. If I am going to sacrafice brightness, I d*** well want the led regulated.

PR based LED lamps should be purchashed from John at [email protected] . He can make them in 4.5V & 6V, 3 LED or 4 LED. Also, 5600mcd & 6400mcd LED's. 2 cell is going to be tougher. VersaLux & Night Pearl are about your only choices, & they're both single LED's. If it's a 2D cell, I'ld convert it to 3C & use John's lamps. Some how, putting a single LED in something the size of a Mag light seems counterproductive. TX

You get hundreds of hours more in a pocket sized EternaLight with 4 LEDs and only 3 AAs!!

It seems a lot of people aren't familiar with this, if they were...hey, it's a GREAT torch for the collection!!!

Sigman and Afterimage: The maximum runtime of 2800hrs on the Eternalight is using the dimmest setting. It uses PWM to control the power delivered and so is quite efficient.

The 4D and single LED setup will probably use a resistor to drop the voltage a little, and then it just blasts light out at whatever level the batteries can give. A little brighter, heaps less efficient, and probably a shorter runtime, though it might glow for longer.

Of course, if you hooked up 4D batteries to your Eternalight and set it to the dimmest mode, I think it would run far longer than a mere 2800 hours. And conversely, 4 LEDs and 3AA cells hooked up in a direct drive configuration will last only about 40hours.
 
Yes I'm aware of their use of PWM and that's one of the "selling points" of the EternaLight!

I use those dimmer settings as much as possible for the extended runtime as well as my "night vision" excursions around the house or in the tent. When I need the brigter light it's there...all I can say is that the EternaLight certainly is the ticket for those reasons!!
 
Gene, I got Versalux PR-2s for 2 cell (3 volt) and went with LEDcorp for 3 and 4 cells. These are all single nichia type LED. I learned the hard way on LEDcorp's Pro Series (LS low domes). I don't have a 4 cell Mag, but a friend does, and he feels it is bright enough for primary use. LEDcorp has 1 LED for 2 cell, BUT, red only.
