I've always wanted to change the ugly bulb in my mag 2D with something luxeon based, but i want to be able to easily swap the bulb easily and not having to use epoxy. Sure, the Hotlips and the other heatsinks nice, but they require you to use epoxy and the mod is permanent. There is also everled that already available in the market, but you cannot specify your luxeon (and they are too rich to my pocket /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/broke.gif ). So how about something of that kind, but cheaper? like,
A Pr2 based luxeon bulb with micropuck inside /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cost wise: El got the mp for $11. Flange bulb was just about $2. Lux, $9.50 from howie or kk. total: $22.50. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nice work shift...
Its like my first few mods, NOT pretty,,, but very functional. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I should do one of these for my old beat up 2D m*g. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

very nice shifty!

and one of the ugliest mods i've ever seen...congratulations /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

nice heatsinking btw /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/twakfl.gif :murder:

Roth, LMAO. (No offense shiftie) Beam shots? Really, if a mod's functional, then it doesn't matter what it looks like. You ought to see the mods *I* don't post here /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Ditto CM on what we don't post! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif shiftd, I carved one down to fit once, but never completed it. Congrads on a DIY everled. (CM- it went out this afternoon.)

Good economical mod option Shifty /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hey shiftd, I like it. Even has a kind of "pedestal" which we all know is sometimes essential to the Mag reflector's optimal focus (if you do use it in a Mag). The white Arctic Alumina (I presume it is?) could be used (non-epoxy form) around the PR's base to increase heat transfer to the Mag's focusing tube somewhat -- messy, but only if you switch this mod around in different lights all the time.

because it's a shiftymod /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
mr shift has very high standards, and won't mod anything unless he can ensure it's ugliness /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

it's his trademark /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hey shiftie, don't listen to these clowns. That mod's a real work of art /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yellowlaugh.gif Look at it this way, if we didn't like you, you wouldn't get all this ribbin' /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Larry, thanks.

True, true...yah shifty, we'd ignore ya if we weren't so interested in your stuff!

But it was a serious question -- did you have to shave something down or something to get something to fit or -- something?

Ah thanks for all the replies /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
hmm, /me murders roth /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/twakfl.gif

Charlie, well, actually, the f'ed up lux was not an intentional act. It is either the solder was too hot or i solder it too close, the plastic just got soldered togethere and burned /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif (hmm, it must be that stupid solder, it just loves to burn melt my precious lux /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

CM, larry, howie and ticey, thanks for the kind words /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
roth, you need to learn from ticey /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/twakfl.gif

actually howie, you need to epoxy the hotlips into the mag body, so it won't wobble, right? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Hey I reckon it looks better than an EverLed during R&D /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
It makes it looks very homemade indeed! Sometimes it's hard to convince someone that you made it when it looks so good. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif
