Preon II dissasembly-corrosion

I have a Preon II that had a battery corrode and stick in the body. I managed to get the battery out but would like to remove the corrosion. I have taken apart the tailcap but can't get to the bottom of the body where the spring is to clean it out. Is there a way to take the bottom off to reach the spring? If not, any suggestions on how to clean this out?

In a recent similar post, some intelligent person suggested that soaking in vinegar is a good bet for alkaline's. The acid in the vinegar will neutralize the acid and help to remove it.

I recommended using baking soda and water afterward to clean it up, the baking soda is a very mild abrasive that shouldn't damage the light at all.

If you want to avoid this in the future, go with other battery chemistries, like lithium primaries (make sure your light can handle the higher voltage) or rechargeables.

Thanks very much for the suggestion. Since I can't seem to disassemble the rest of the light, do you think dunking the body of the light in along with it's tailcap clicky will hurt the switch?

Out of interest, were the ones that corroded the original batteries that were supplied with the light?

Is it titanium or aluminum? You might consider buying a new one and selling the head, or posting a WTB for the color body you need.

Often times it's too frustrating trying to clean out an aluminum body because of how badly the acid etches the surface.

Had the same happen to mine, while on loan to a friend. Still have yet to sort it out, might try that vinegar idea =) thanks! And with mine, it was the original duracells in the light that leaked. Knew I should have put Eneloops in there instead!

Have you guys considered asking the place you bought the light for help, since the manufacturer encouraged you to use Alkalines and your light is destroyed?
