What do you think about Primus Primelite 2007 model? The maker claim 75-m throw whit a Luxeon 1w led . Is almost unbelievable. According specifications seen here: http://www.globetrotter.de/de/shop/detail.php?mod_nr=pr_01606&k_id=1307&hot=0
can be possible? Have somebody tested this product. Perhaps it is not available in USA but in Europe, where I am from, the price is close to Petzl headlamp. Any recommendation between Petzl Myo XP and Primus . Which is the best for night trekking? Thank you boys!

Headlamp manufacturers which rate their throw in meters base this on how far the beam throws before it reaches 0.25 lux. Using the inverse square law this means the Primelite has 1406 lux at 1 m, something which is very possible with a 1W considering Streamlight manages to get 3000 lux from their 4AA Propoly Luxeon (but this is not a headlamp). However, it does appear to be a little bit high compared to other Luxeon based headlamps, most are below 1000 lux. So if the rating is true then the beam is probably not very useful for a headlamp since it will be way too concentrated.
If you are not moving fast, then I would recommend a floody headlamp instead, e.g. Princeton Tec Quad which has 4 high intensity Nichia CS 5mm LEDs. It takes Energizer Lithium L92 batteries, which is recommended to use in the cold, Petzl headlamps cannot use Lithium batteries. The Quad can be bought from Lighthound for only $25.5, and he ships internationally.
There are a lot of headlamps which both has 5mm LEDs for flood, and Luxeon for throw, e.g. Princeton Tex Apex, but these are usually bigger and heavier and the throw is not as good as from a handheld light. It is also not so good to have the light so close to your eyes as you do with a headlamp when you want to view something far away, you get much more glare/back scatter with a headlamp than with a handheld light.
So for trekking I recommend a pure flood headlamp plus a handheld light which throws well. Just remember to turn off the headlamp when using the handheld.
