I was flipping through the new Backpacker magazine in the library today and saw an ad for this headlamp. It looks like an Aurora with a single 1 watt LED instead of 3 small ones. I like what I read... 3 AAA, 3 brightness levels, 2 hrs regulated light on high down to 44 hrs on low. I really like the single headband Aurora/Tikka style because it is simple and compact and doesn't have a battery pack in the back that interferes with reading on your back. My Aurora is really not bright enough for night time off trail use. Well, with new batteries, it might be good for about 15 minutes, fading all the time. So, this sounds like a great upgrade. Has anyone had a chance to preview it yet? It would be interesting to compare to the Matrix 2, Aurora, Tikka Plus, Yukon HL, and Black Diamond Zenix... and just from the specs it sounds like it would be the most attractive to me. It might not be out yet. I stopped by the grocery store a little later and stopped by the magazine rack to take another look at the ad. Interestingly, the same issue, same month of Backpacker in the grocery store didn't have the EOS ad... it had a different Princeton Tec ad advertising some older product (Yukon and ?).
A web search shows that it retails for about $38, with some places advertising it for about $30, but not shipping yet. http://www.thegarminstore.com/site/product.cfm?id=EOS-BK
