OK, My 1W Princeton Tec Yukon HL has suddenly become a dim bulb, both in flood and spot mode, with 5mm LEDs and Lux, respectively.

This is especially obvious when comparing it with MM 3AA Lite. Much brighter.

The run time isn't that good.

Any suggestions what to replace it with? I would like to stay with AA cells.

Also, does anyone make a Cree headlite?

Your use of the word "suddenly" implies a component failure. You may want to sent it back to Princeton Tec since it has a life time warranty. I did so recently after opening the case with a hacksaw and finding exposed wires touching ground intermittently. My replacement arrived a few weeks ago.

Actually it was in jest. The light is as bright as when I got it (used). It's just that since getting all these 3W lites, I can see how far behid it is. No comparison to MM 3AA, AAP3W lite, and so on.
