Hi everybody!
Yesterday i have finished the first prototype of my Laser. In this post i want to keep u up to date and show pic of my Laserprojekt. At the moment i use only a 500mW 808nm TO-3 Diode and a weak driverboard. On the pic u can see the Laser with 0,650 mA this is the maximum for the diode. The beam i not very bright, i must allign the lenses better.

I am waiting for your comments and suggestions.

I didn't know the watt, but today or tomorrow i hope i receive my Coherent Lasercheck. Also i have ordered a few minutes ago a new 1Watt diode from Roithner-laser.com. When i am satisfied with the power i have to disassemble it and built it in a small Case.

I assume you are using a Leadlight MCA noticing the familiar barrel assembly. In that case I would purchase a Casix one - much better efficiency.

You could also do with better conduction for heat dissipation around the barrel. Just suggestions... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

In the backgrund u can see my CarPC projekt, im am waiting for a better weather to build it in my car. I use the small PC Mainboard with a self made Powerregulator. A 7"TFT Monitor and software Frodoplayer and ready is the replacement for the normal car radio.

With the actuall Power after 10 minutes there are warm, but not hot, the fan are blowing a little to the cristalls. When i built in the 1 Watt Diode .... i don't know. I have to try. And i make a heatsink only for the Crystalls. And when the Crystalls die, i try some from Casix.

you may want to consider a tec cooled system for the crysals if youre going for a 1 watt diode

how is the diode mounted? are you using the lenses in the part that prevously held the diode?
If you havent done so allready, there is a section of sams laser faq that has some very god tips on what you are doing.
especially some conciderations on using a 1 watt diode.. and how the larger the diode the larger the emitter area and how it gets to be more wasted power than is used to generate the beam... meaning the infrared isnt all focused on the crystals and just heats everything up.
I dont know the exact spot on the website but it is full of goodies worth reading

My Driverboard is tooooo weak, there can max. give 1A to the Diode. I make the resistor mod, but is still not enough. Where can i get a driverboard who can handle 2-3 A ? I am searching now for several hours on the internet, but with out any success.

dwight finney of IFIXLASERS can make them... hes sort of hard to deal with, but he can do it.

If you use the original leadlight driver, replace the transistor that drives the diode with one that can handle a higher current, maybe do some fudging with the current sense resistor (.5 ohm) you should be able to increase your current capacity.

It's not a Leadlight driver, i use the biggest driverboard which i can get from Roithner-Laser. On this i also have made the resistor mod and max. output now is 1 A. And a 1Watt Diode can handel 1,6 A without problem.

Does anybody have any reason why we can't use a transistor with a voltage dividing pot and keep a resistor defining max current in series with the diode?

You can get a peltier from one of the 12 volt plug in refers.
than build your own regulated power supply
