Mods are a SX0H star, IMS 17mm reflector and an additional heatsink.

Thanks to ktronic for the heatsink suggestion. I'm not sure who originally suggested the IMS 17mm reflector first, so I'll let you guys (adirondackdestroyer, chevrofreak, jar3ds, etc.) fight it out.

It turns out the reflector is shorter than the optic/holder assembly, but the added heatsink makes up for the difference perfectly. For the final assembly, I put thermal compound on the heatsink and some tiny copper strips on the RT1 temp sensor so it contacts the star:

Benefits of the mod are a larger, whiter and brighter hotspot and about 80% more heatsink mass. I'm not sure when the temp sensor kicks in - I got tired of waiting for it after ten minutes. For the assembly work I'll be using it for, it will be on low or medium at the most.
 
thanks for sharing! instead of using the copper you could just use some thermal paste.... it will help things from melting etc...

theres another thread that i'm watching that acually gives the resistance figures that the heat regulation sensor introduces into the circuit to tame back the output...

the temp sensor doesn't 'kick' in... rather it slowly reduces the output to keep the temp down to a manageable temp...
 
wow, I like my EOS stock, the optic is very good (for an optic) but that 17mm probably provides more flood? How much does the Heatsink help out? I'm afraid to take mine apart.

there are beamshots on the site already comparing the stock optic to the 17mm reflector...

it makes a hotter-hot-spot.... and a wider flood beam... seems to make more overall lumens...

the heatsink has yet to be tested if it indeed does prevent the heat circuit from kicking in or 'less' than it does normally... i'm sure it will make your luxeon happier though having more area to transfer its heat to :)
