I have been searching this forum and I think I have finally found the head lamp that will work best for be. But I dont know if they still make the one I am looking for.

I found out from this site that the eos with the frosted lens and Rebel led are the one to get, But I can not find that headlamp.

I even went to PT home page and the pics of the headlamp do not look frosted. Nor did they mention anything about the lens frosted.

Thanks

You want the 50 lumen version, this comes with the frosted lense. It has 50 lumen stated on the packaging.

The old Eos is 25 lumen and does not have the frosted lense. It also has 25 lumen stated on the packaging.

Princeton Tec are not so good at updating their website, so have probably used pictures of the old Eos.

Just make sure you buy the 50 lumen version and you have the one you want. Beware, as there are quite a few mail order companies who have copied the blog "50 lumen" etc for their own website but actually stock the old 25 lumen lamp. This happened to me, ordered the 50 lumen lamp and the old one turned up. Might be worth a phone call to the supplier to check that "50 lumen" is stated on the packaging of the ones they stock.

Best regards - Steve

Search for EOSR or EOS-R to find listing for the frosted, rebel version. Get the 4 mode headlamp for more versatility. Double check, unless you absolutely trust the seller, that they stock the new version before you purchase. As noted elsewhere, BrightGuy clearly lists what they sell, and has lower prices for the older models. Also, I had read that the brighter colored bodies might be more susceptible to deterioration, so I bought the black.

Happy Hunting!

I think that might be the case for the Apex, but not so sure about the Eos.

The hinge on the battery cover on one of my Eos cracked (replaced by PT). Now the body on my blue Eos is cracked where the battery cover screw goes into the body. (Yes, I have "a couple" of Eos...)

The rumblings of plastic part failures were definitely more pronounced for the Apex, but my impression is that there were also a small number of posts making a link between the non-black EOS and plastic problems. I don't think they were ever significant enough to warrant their own thread, and may have been "me too" tangents to the wider Apex discussion. I just figured better safe than sorry when I went out to buy mine and thought to pass it on.

It's soo hard to tell from second hand information what to be concerned over when you don't know much about the person on the other end, the product's age, or how the item was used or abused. That said, I do have a degree of confidence in GreenLED.

GreenLED, the colors of the two EOS you've had to have repaired are blue and *what*, and can you offer any more details as to how the problems came about?

Thanks!

My first experience with a cracked Eos was the black unit. I had it as my bike helmet light, and it "simply" developed a crack in the battery compartment hinge. I say "simply" to imply that I didn't abuse the light/helmet in any way to cause that kind of damage. PT replaced that unit.

My second cracked Eos (blue) is actually the very first Eos I had (gift from jch79, maybe 2 years ago, IIRC), and it's the one I've used and abused most. It's my outdoors light, and I take it into the field often. Plus, it's the light my younger son uses to play with, so it's seen it's share of "fun times" with him. The light has been modded, dunken in water, dropped, scratched, etc. I just came back from an 8 week-long stint in the field and realized there's a hairline crack along on the top of the case. I *think* that comes from tightening the battery compartment screw too much, since the crack is right alongside where a brass "nut" is embedded into the light's case (which is where the batt compartment screw screws in). I've had that light get wet inside. At the time I thought it was poor o-ring lubing but now I'm thinking it might be the crack on the case...

My son uses another Eos (blue) on his helmet. He's considerably rougher on his gear than I, and isn't showing any cracks. I bought that headlamp a little after I got my other blue Eos.

I also have another Eos (grey/yellow), which I bought used off BST, over a year ago. It's another beater light, being used by whoever needs a light at home (and more recently by my youngest son as his "play" light). No cracks there either.

Hope that helps.

I hope PT have corrected the problem. I have just order 10 PT EOS and they are on their way. Half will be a gift to the boy scout leaders in my son's class.

:welcome:princeton Tec is using their old images on their website so don't just go by appearances. Buy your light from a trusted vendor that states exactly what model and lumen output rating is specific to the product in question and as others have said, you want the 50Lumen model and that will get you the frosted lens. Bright Guy is a very trusted retailer that clearly lists and labels their products correctly. REI is good as well if there is a store close to you especially because of their return policy should there be any problems. Not certain on your geographic location but I hoipe that this helps.

Very helpful GL, as this adds to the body of knowledge from which to draw conclusions. Thanks for your willingness to share.

Thanks for all of your replys! :twothumbs

I was going to get one from brightguy. But I happend to see one on ebay for $23. Used in like new cond. And came with the PT eos case. The guy labeled the auction as EOSR 50.

So I hope I am safe.

I cant wait to get this. I now have one light I can take off my want list. But for some reason the list keeps growing.
