I know the Yukon & Yukon HL haven't gotten much love ever since the Apex came out, but I've always felt like they were very well constructed and easy to use. I've been thinking about it, and I think the Yukon (especially the earlier version, before it had multiple brightness levels) could make an interesting modding platform. Alas, mine got traded away several years ago, so now I'm just trying to find a used one to mess around with (hint hint, anyone willing to part with theirs?).

So.... my big question is:

Has anyone here gone to the trouble of modding a Princeton Tec Yukon or Yukon HL? If so, I'd love to see the results!

I'm also interested because my old HL is rather lacking in brightness. I've removed the internal screws but can't remove anything because it's too tight. I'll appreciate any disassembly info.

I'm guessing there's no circuitry other than resistors in the old models.

Thanks vt; that makes sense because I put a bit of effort into trying to get it apart. I gave up because I didn't want to break it.

My HL is weird because it draws more current while giving less brightness with the three 5mm LEDs. The Lux isn't very bright either, but it throws a spot.

With free lumens from NiMH cells, in snow covered conditions, there's enough light that the "old tech" HL is still serviceable.

Yeah, I remember hearing some complaints along those lines a few years ago. I guess that's what you get when you're dealing with a 1-watt side-emitter!
