QIII heatsink mod?

Has anyone already come up with an improvement for the heatsink on a QIII? I'm planning on turning my QIII into a bike light (for offroad use, obviously at night). Currently, my plans are to upgrade the star to a t bin series, change the boost board out for one with constant current regulation, and hopefully drive it a little harder.

I will be running the light for 2+ hours at a time (I plan to use an external battery pack, probably of 2xC NiMH.), so I'm concerned how high of mA I can run it without heat problems.. I wasn't too impressed with its design for heat transfer. I was thinking of machining a copper plug to replace the current aluminum ring, and have the copper extend slightly into the battery compartment. Mount the boost board behind that (I'm using an external battery, so I have lots of room to play with). I'll make some sort of aluminum clamp to hold the QIII to the handlebar and transfer more heat away..

Thoughts? Suggestions? Does someone have a better method (I couldn't find any through my searches) I'm a complete newbie for the luxeon flashlight mods.

Thanks!

A bigger, ready made, sealed light, or two velcro'ed to the upper bike frame may be a better move for runtime and versatility.
I also have 3 Q3's on the way to me at this time.
I'll see if I can cook up something along your lines and pass along the info to you on how to make it happen.
I have a nice mountain bike just needing something like this.

I'm concerned with too much weight on the bars, since that will be harder to secure in the ideal spot, but I suppose a good light head (with good heatsinking) and still using the remote batteries would work.. let me know what you come up with after you look into it some more.

Will do.
Oh, almost forgot;

I change the stock driver to BB500 with existing heatsink. It's OK for long time use. Brighter than stock driver but get a little bit warmer. It's also make a good regulated too.
