As totally embarrassing as it is to admit it, :( I figured I would post my misadventure with my Quark 18650 tube for my 123 tactical. I recently purchased the 123 tactical, a turbo flat cap, a 2AA tube and a 18650 tube for it. I was happy as I figured I had a great little EDC light as well as the ability to use common AA cells if needed. PLUS, I could use the same rechargeable cells (18650) that I already have for my Fenix TK30 and various P60 hosts.
When I got my order I immediately removed the plastic caps from the tubes and began legoing the various pieces together. I admit that I had read numerous posts prior to my purchase and only two issues concerned me, the “green tint lottery” and the “non-threading” 18650 tube. I avoided the green tint issue by ordering the previous version of the light which I assure you is most satisfactory (great profile, mix of throw and spill and bright as heck!). :twothumbs
When I tried to thread the 18650 tube onto the head, it would not fit. I tried both tail caps too but no luck. I even searched CPF for other fixes and thought about getting a thread cutting die to recut the threads and make it work. :thumbsdow I was very disappointed as I planned on carrying the light with the 18650 with me at work and it’s ability to be so battery versatile was what led me to purchase it in the first place.
Because I had already read about this issue and prepped myself for it, I gave up and called 4sevens. The lady I talked to was very friendly and told me that was the second tube they had gotten a call about that day and they were going to stop carrying that tube with no replacement in the future. She later sent me an email telling me to return the tube and they would credit me back for the purchase. I sent the tube back without the caps and waited for the credit to hit.
Later I got an e-mail asking for the caps back. :thinking: I wondered why they were worried about getting back some plastic caps until I got them out of the package and took a closer look.
Attached to one of the caps was a small adapter with two springs attached. I unthreaded the plastic cap from the adapter and presto! Threads that fit perfectly onto my head! :oops:I sent an email this morning back to 4sevens asking if they would send my tube back to me at my cost since it was my mistake and I am waiting to hear back. If not, I will return their caps and happily order another tube. Waiting to hear from them but wanted to post this asap to spread the word.
As tempting as it was to quietly return the part and just order a new tube to avoid admitting my embarrassing mistake I figured it was better for the common good if my admission would help prevent others from making the same easy mistake I did. lovecpf Sorry for rambling but I needed to provide some details to cushion the blow to my ego.
