I received my Quark AA2 Tactical NW this week and the only issue I had with it was the battery rattle that was minimal, but annoying. I wasn't sure if my quick fix idea would work, but it did.

All I did was wrap a piece of gaffers tape around each battery. I chose gaffers tape because it is soft and won't leave a sticky residue on my Eneloops. The tape doesn't need to go all the way around the battery, but don't double-up the tape or the battery won't fit.

Once I did this, the rattle is GONE and the batteries still slide in and out of the tube easily. Now my Quark AA2 just might be perfect.

This may be common knowledge around here, but I couldn't find a similar post so I figure this may help someone out.

Thanks for the suggestion. Even a small amount of rattle in my lights drives me nuts. I also have an AA2 and slide in a small slip of paper, but a bit of quick tape seems easier. Love the AA2 - one of my favorites for sure.

I just got the Quark AA2 Tactical this week, for my first quality flashlight. I researched and lurked on these forums, wanted AA for general purpose and ease, and settled on this light. At first the tail was finicky and it wouldn't light up, but after moving the O-ring to get settled, all is good. Great little light...pocketable, good flood, nice moonlight mode, 206 lumens on max!

Anyway, I guess I could use other tapes if my batteries rattle, but what's gaffers tape?

P.S. 1st post LOL

I'm actually glad there was room for the tape, since now there is even less rattle than my Fenix L2T... The Fenix has almost no rattle but I thought I would put tape on its batteries as well and there isn't room.

I guess I would add to be careful what tape you use since you don't want any stickiness leaking into your battery tube. Gaffers tape is the best I can think of, then maybe painter's tape or masking tape... Electrical tape seems like a bad idea since it gets nasty pretty quick.

Hmm... I got paper rolled inside the tube on many of my lights, I like them snug.

I found that the supplied Duracells that came with my AA2 were larger diameter than the local Duracells (Aus) so when I first got my light the batteries didn't rattle (or was minimal) but now the batteries nearly always rattle when using the thinner alky's. Using the Lithium cells works fantastic... they are slightly thicker (like the US cells) and they are lighter so they don't seem to rattle at all. Just expensive to feed cells to it :)

A little OT, but how do you like that Neutral White (assuming that's what you meant by NW)?

My GF bought me one for my birthday, but it seemed REALLY warm (like almost incandescent warm). So I sent it back and got the Turbo instead. The Turbo is very much on the cool side of white, but dayum it's bright!

I still use my Fenix L1T V2 as my EDC, since even 2xAA seems a bit large, but the Quark AA2 Turbo has replaced my hotwire Mag as my carry light when I go for walks at night.

My NW quark is significantly warmer than my 5B1 tint R4.

Aarrgghh...I was thinking of returning my cool white Quark AA2 for a neutral white, but I don't want it to be too "incandescent warm" looking. Hopefully there are some beam shots available to check?

I will only buy neutral/warm tint LED's now that they are becoming more available... For me, the one downfall of LED lights when the "cree revoluton" started was the cool/blue color temp. Maybe it is my video/photo background, but I personally can't stand blue/green tinted lights.

My first experience was with a Jetbeam E3P Q3-5A. I have also recently purchased the Quark AA2 Neutral R4, which is definitely more yellow than the Jetbeam's slightly red tint... but I like them both and definitely prefer the tints over any cool temp.

I also recently purchased the Zebralight H501w for a headlamp/floodlight. Interestingly, the tint of the H501w's Q3-5A is more purple than the E3P, but I have a feeling it's due to the diffusing lens creating a sort of prism affect... or maybe one of them is not technically a 5A. Either way, the purple isn't very noticable unless you are shining it on a whitewall.

Anyway, my Quark AA2 Neutral, E3P warm, and H501w make a great team of warm temp lights that all work with AA's... The only thing left is to get a large (18650) warm flood light... I will likely get the MG P-Rocket with the neutral SST-50.

I make paper sleeves for the cells, easy and effective!

I started to make a paper sleeve, but decided to try the gaffers tape first... The tape I used was softer and thicker than standard paper and perfectly filled the gap between my Eneloops and Quark... plus it was easier for me to wrap the tape, versus cutting the paper to the right size.

I'm sure there are plenty of solutions... I was just happy that it worked so well.
