I have a quark tac 123. The single cr123 version. I was thinking of buying the 2 cr123 body and running a 18650 battery. Would this work with the low volt heard.

The voltage would be the same just more runtime. Should run great for you. I recommend aw 18650s.. I'm still running the 2900 version in my olight m20 and they work fabulous.

2 cr123a body isn't wide enough to fit an 18650.

There was a limited run of 18650 quark bodies done a while back. But unless you already have one, I don't like your chances of finding one.
But by chance if you found an 18650 body, then yes, it would work as its within the voltage range for the quark 123 head. (0.9-4.2v)

Another option would be using the 2 cr123a body with a 17670 li-ion. Which is less capacity than an 18650 but more capacity than a 16340 and will fit the 2 cr123a body.

17670 would be nice, you can get 1600 mah AWs which will beat the 2 CR123 setup.

Well that sucks I already ordered the body and 18650
I'm sorry the first poster mislead you. Recap on cell sizes so you won't be fooled again:

18650 = 18mm diameter, 65.0 mm long
This is the nominal size for 18650 batteries. But adding a protection circuit makes it a smidge wider and a few mm longer, this is usually not a problem.

16340 = 16mm diameter, 34.0mm long
This is the nominal size of RCR123s, rechargeable Li-Ion cells of similar size and slightly higher voltage than CR123s.

17670 = 17mm diameter, 67mm long
This is the nominal size of a cell that is about the same size as 2 RCR123s in a row, with the voltage of one Li-Ion cell.

What to do next? Well, I suggest you put that 18650 on CPF Marketplace, you can probably sell & ship it for the unfortunate loss of a buck or two. Then buy a 17670 and merrily be on your way. Good luck!

Thanks for the help. I may have a trust fire 18650 for sell or I might just buy something it will fit in. Any opinions on 18650 lights.

be glad You dont have an 18650 Quark body, You would be disappointed.

Put an 17650 into the 2 cell body and be glad.
Except for the cell itself (and its smaller capacity) all the using is WAY better than with the 18650 body.

Now would the AW 18650 3100mah work in a Quark X turbo with the 18650 body? If not, what's the highest mah battery I can use in my quarks?

There is no guarantee a 17650 cell will fit in the Quark 2x123 body either. I have 2 out of 3 bodies where my AW 17650'd did not fit at all and the third body only worked if you removed the label on the battery.

Got home and found something in the mail for my Quark X Turbo...
