I've been wanting to buy one of these lights but first wanted to ask if anyone knows if it has the P60 drop in or the head assembly like the newer KX4 head used on the G2? I've seen some that are incandescent and some LEDs.

The older E2E have a removable bulb. They have a special e series bulb that is not at all similar to the P60. The newer E2 have a one piece head/ Light Engine. You can get aftermarket LED dropins for the Incan E2 heads.

The E2e uses an MN02/MN03 LA. SF offers KX2 LED conversions. They are vastly different when compared to the G2 and KX4 LED conversion.

One of the others can prob answer this better, but I know this IMR batteries can handle heavy amp loads better than other battery types.
I have other E2x set-ups, but I think my favorite rig is an E2E with a Lumens Factory E0-E1R bulb , driven by an AW black-label 17670 cell. I had to do some crude internal enlarging with a moto-dremel tool, but after much ugly-grinding-noise-producing, the battery finally went in. It's possible to make a brighter configuration, but I really like this one.

Lumensfactory has some replacement LED engine w/ bezel, but you couldnt use the factory bezel for that
If you would like to stick with All-factory appearance, go with incan bulb produced by lumensfactory or LED drop-in by the others, like veleno

You will need a high discharge battery with that bulb. The AW IMR batteries are great for high amp draw devices.

I would go for the EO-E2R 2x RCR123 it's only 150lm but 90 min runtime for general use.

IMR are without protection so you have to use it carefully or not?
Take the same precautions you do with any other lithium cell and you should be fine. IMR's are generally safer than regular rechargable lithium ion cells, so the protection circuit is not really needed.
