Question about Surefire LED lights

I started with a Fenix P2D Q5 CE '4n1' kit from the Fenix Store and 6P LED from Lowes last Feb - saw them at 'LEO' prices at a gunstore - returned the one to Lowes and bought one from the gunstore. I later bought my E1b and E2DL there, too. I found a cheap new 6P (incand) about a year ago - a visit back to the gun pusher's landed a P60L - the pair of 6Pls became house/car flashlights. Last Feb, I ordered 3 dozen CR123s from S-F - 2nd day delivery - <$70! I gave the last two new CR123s from the first dozen box to my son Christmas. I like the high energy packaged density of the primaries - and still have two dozen - and all of my lights have fresh cells. BTW, I only recycle pairs from the the 6PLs and E2DL for my old Inova X5. It will eek out the last erg from those cells!
My advise would have been a 6PLED from Lowes - you could return it if you weren't tickled with it - plus it's about as low in price as a S-F LED gets, save buying an evil-bay G2 and adding a P60L to it. That 80L is bright in the middle of the night - a good thing when you have a black cat that sleeps in the middle of the dark hall. Of course, a U2 is quite a step up! Congrats - and consider just buying a bunch of CR123s - no charger to keep up with, fit problems, etc. And - all S-Fs were designed for CR123s - and they have a shelf life of 10+ years. Congrats on your new S-F!

I agree with your choice of the U2. That is the light that I use as my main utility light for almost everything. I use many different lights but my U2 is never far from reach, whether in my backpack or my truck.
As for your first criteria about an around the house light. I would have to say that of the current crop of Surefire lights that the E1L is probably the best choice in the compact size. Its low while still underrated and brighter than the low of my U2 is excellent for navigating a darkened house and its high is plenty to illuminate a large room if there is no ambient light. Throw on a FO4 diffuser and its even better indoors. The only drawback to me is its size and while I prefer it and the E1B over the L1 at the moment I would prefer a slightly larger light as its a bit too small in my hand. This may or not be an issue to you.

My primary light is a U2, one of the original ones. Beyond that, the only other light that gets much carry daily is my KL4/E1B combo. I put my KL4-BK on my E1B body/TC and run it on an R123. At night, I use an original KL1-RD (with the Write-Right treatment) on an original E1e-HA body with a mostly dead SF123 to creep around in the dark. It's still such an awesome little light that won't wake the munchkins when I check on them.
