Question about UV

Is that the same kind of glass I see fluorescing in some more interesting geissler tubes? Where on earth does one get uranium glass marbles? That sounds like a very interesting project and I hope you'll post pictures!

Uranium glass is also called Vaseline glass, and is a yellowish-greenish color. It contains a very small amount of uranium (slightly radioactive, but not, I think, dangerous), which causes the glass to fluoresce green under UV light. I have no idea why uranium makes the glass fluoresce -- I don't *think* it has anything to do with being radioactive.

There are a lot of vaseline glass marbles (for testing geiger counters?) on sale on eBay, and some older decorative items.

fluorescent. I'm not so much into Uranium marbles as I am into liking cool glows. You have an awesome collection there. I was web cruising for clear marbles once and came upon alot of handmade marble web sites but no clear ones.

The mantels for gas lights (the little white socks) are also radioactive, I wonder if they glow under UV ?

The new mantles are not radioactive. I think they changed that in the 80's. BTW they do not glow (I tried it).
