Wicked lasers do you think Leadlight would be amenable to designing pointers with lower beam divergence? All brands of pointers seem to have a beam divergence of 1.2 and 1.5 mrd. Lower beam divergence also along with higher output extends the visibility range.
I like to see pointers running off AA, C, or D batteries. for higher output pointers >5mw, AAA batteries poop out to fast. What is the diameter of the Leadlight module? And do you or would you sell just the modules? I could fit it into a brass casing I had made specially. I did remove my pointers module and put it into a brass casing so I could use AA batteries and to change the divergence at will,works great, did this back in 1/04.I've seen only one style of green pointer that use AA batteries they are called scuba lasers and they are water proof.
 
I dont know, but I dont think they would b/c it would not be in their interest to do a complete makeover of their product b/c they do not sell over 5mW to begin with, they spend alot of time making sure it is 5mW or under, so b/c of that, they don't need to make, nor want to make it any highered power, do you want their email so you can ask?
 
First off I am familiar with the GLP-111 a CNI product and yes the beam from what I remember is 1.2mrd.
Thanks for the offer of contacting Leadlight, but I have no intention of being a distributor for them nor would one person asking them to change or add different styles of pointers sway them to do so, but a distributor might. Here's why, when I look at all of the sites selling pointers they are all the same, exception is pricing. I suspect that you could sell more pointers if you or someone else offers something different, like a pointer that runs using non AAA batteries for Longer Rated Output Running Time[LRORT]. Modded pointers certainly require AA, C, D batteries because they are even more power hungry. Every site that sells modded pointers tout power outputs but, what they never ever mention is what the length of time is at the rated output which can probably be counted in a mear handful of minutes. Beam divergence [range] some sites say 25,000" and that is with a divergence of 1.2-1.5 mrd, keeping a tighter beam would certainly up that figure even for a 5mw pointer, I define range as, how far you can illuminate a matte white surface and see it with the naked eye under optimal conditions. Noticeable improvments can be had by lowering beam divergence . Example,my 5mw pointer maximum visual distance so far 13,000 feet, divergence =
.3mrd @ 10 meters =.03mm per meter so, .3mrd x 13000" = 3962.4 m x .03 =118. 872cm=3.9 feet spot @ 13,000 feet.
1.2 mrd gives you a spot size of 15.6 feet at the same distance, that's 4 times larger. My point is New and Improved always sells. Maybe I'm right maybe not, an opinion poll might be in order. One more thing what is the diameter of the leadlight module in millimeters if you can.
 
i know this is a bit old, but i have a pointer(sadly broken at the moment /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif soon to be fixed /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy14.gif) that runs on N size batteries(i don't know if they are better or worse). i think it it was made by "transverse industries" i don't know if the batteries lasted any longer cause it died, it was rated <5mW. i don't know if thats any help. I know its old, i was just browsing through the old postings. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
