Questions about First Lummi Raw Al

Hello guys,

I have recently ordered my first Lummi flashlight, a Raw Al 200/20 neutral white model. I plan on carrying it on a keychain but I am concerned about it getting damaged.

Does Lummi offer any coating for aluminum flashlights ? I also thought of the possibility of having the flashlight sprayed with Duracoat, has anyone tried it and what do you think?

It would be nice if someone could post a picture of a Lummi Raw Al that has been carried everyday for some time so I can see how well they hold up to keychain wear.

Hey! Welcome to the club! Most Raw's (all currently being offered) are bare (or raw...pun intended ) metal. You can put a coating onto it...others have and there have been some special models offered, such as a camo version. Lastly, as for a picture of a used and carried Raw Al, look up CPF Member HKJ's small light roundup thread. I'm on my phone right now, otherwise I'd post the link for you. In his discussion, he shows his used Raw Al...and he takes good pictures.

Thanks guys, I was expecting the Raw Al to look much worse after keychain wear than the one on the picture. I'm still not sure if I should have it coated or not just to protect it.
I just visited the Lummi site and the Wee Ti is starting to look more and more tempting. Do you guys usually carry a Raw or a Wee on your keychain ?

I can't wait for my Raw to arrive.

If you know someone who can professionally coat it for cheap, sure, might as well get it done -- it's more than a little more expensive than a Maglite, after all, and even Maglites are anodized.

I have NS's and Ti's and I carry them in a separate pocket away from potential damage...

I carry my Raw Al and Wee Ti unprotected in my pocket and briefcase all the time, with no problems whatsoever (if you don't rate a few nicks and scratches as "problems", that is).

I have both the wee NS and the raw AL, and the nickel silver by far handles the wear of keychain use. but the lobster claw that came with the wee broke on the swivel, and my wee is currently lost/gone :mecry:

This comes after I carried the raw on my keychain for 2-3 months and the stainless cable that came with the raw acted as a saw and wore the back slot nearly all the way through until I switched it to the wee.

Rob has said on the thread of the Raw SS The new rear slot design on the raw SS is supposed to go over to the new raw al for a much more durable keychain duty.

Many have asked what do I do to my keys, and I explaing the obvious- I have had a fenix p1d for over a year with finally a wear through. I had a aaa buckle light from kaidomain for a year plus with no problems.

some lights can handle keychain duty, some can't. the same is true of rob's lights. many say the titanium raw or wee is bulletproof tough on keychains, but you will pay for it. The nickel material seems to wear slower and get scatched less.

My Raw has been in my pocket and on keys, all the trits are broken and gone, major scratches and dings, but it is almost polished smooth and still turns heads on high. you really can't beat the price for what you get.

I don´t know about the Raw Al since I sold mine already but I had two of the old aluminum Orb Raws on my keychain and they did not hold up very well with keys.

If you want your light to be coated you should participate in moadamag´s coating run right now. He offers different coatings.

What keychain could I use aside from the leather sheath? I need something reliable that will not brake easily.
