Questions re: firefly

I have bought the "semi-complete" model. Should I buy
a) Madmax Plus Sandwich Module kit Q3-Wide Open
b) Madmax Plus Sandwich Module kit-Wide Open
c) Something else?
Also, I assume this is semi-trivial assembly?
If the answer "depends on what I want to do" please assume that I want the brightest and longest lasting available. Thanks

brightest and longest lasting are bitter enemys.

if you want brighter, you will get reduced runtime.
if you want longer runtime, you will get reduced brightness.

upgrading to a q3 will result in greater brightness, without sacrificing runtime (well, that's really hard to say, but it shouldn't substantailly affect anything), so if you can afford the couple extra $$, it's worth it.

overall, i think a mm q3l is a good choice /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Let me first state that I have not followed the firefly that much.

Both a and b do the same thing. the Q3 version gives you a known bin code and possibly a brighter Luxeon that a non specified version in option b above.

Be aware that the more light typically means the flashlight will be hotter. How hot is dependant on many variables.

Also usually brightess and longest lasting are contradicting terms. Going for brightess will always mean more power which translates to lower run times and vice versa.

To me, (IMHO), you would be better off with a Q3 moderately overdriven which will give you a longer run time and still produce enough light to still give you the "WOW" effect for the light/size density.

That would point to the regular MM Q3 WO and not the MM+.

To put things on perspective. A BB400 Q3 drives the Q3 with less power than the MM or the MM+. It seems that many people still say the BB400 Q3 is awesome and bright. So, if the BB400 is good then either of the MM would be better. To me the best compromise is the MM Q3.

OK, presuming that I translated that into every day english, I ordered 1 x Madmax Sandwich Module kit w/Q3 Wide Open and I am assuming that is all I need for the firefly. Man I buy too many flashlights!
