Quick question about Surefire M4

Is there anyway to adapt this light over to a type of recharble battery ??

Currently using 4 123a Surefire batteries, just getting a little expensive.

There are users who will use two Pila 168S Li-ion batteries in place of the 4x123's. There is a voltage difference (7.4v versus the 12 of 4x123's). I have been considering trying this configuration myself. I have not tried any rechargables in my M4 yet, perhaps another member of the forum can help with the difference in performance.

There is also an evaluation if a Li-ion 123 rechargables going on as we speak.

Brock's flashlight page indicates that the 4 cells under load are down at 8.35 vdc. The two Pilas should start at around 8 vdc and normalize to a little less. So its not as far off as one would think.

I don't have one or I would have tried this already....

Two A14's and two B65 rechargable batteries work I have even ran this combo with a N62. I makes it really long but it does work.

anyone know runtime and lightout of a m4 using 2 168s with the MN60 lamp ??

I am using 2 168s and a MN16 bulb in mine as someone? suggested that a 9volt Turbo bulb would be a closer match for the voltage. It works just fine. Not sure as to runtime
or lumens.

Just did some quick and dirty measurments on the M4:

On CR123's :
MN60 = 12,670 lux@1m current draw was 1.6amps across the tail
MN61 = 9830 lux@1m, current draw was 2.52amps

On Pila 168s
MN60 = 5880 lux@1m, current was 1.44 amps
MN61 = 6790 lux@1m, current was 2.38amps

No runtime tests yet.

Zothen123, sorry I took so long to respond. I charged up the 168s and with the MN16 the M4 ran 36min then total shut down it was quite warm at the time. After pulling the Batts out and letting things cool down I was concerned that I had blown the bulb so I tossed in 4 123's and was able to confirm that the bulb was good to go untill I slapped it with 12Volts /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mecry.gif My BAD I have recharged the Pila's and put the MN60 lamp in the M4 and it is good to go. The thought plan of placing a 9Volt lamp in the M4 is a good plan with the Pila's in the event your head is where mine seems to be /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif stick with 12volt lamps
