Quick Question : Surefire 9N and standard \"C\" batt

Need your quick help :
I have a 9N with B92. I understand that B92 and its replacement B90 uses 3 x SubC cell to form the tube.

I'm am planning to use standard "C" size batteries, NiMH or otherwise. Given the right length of a custom cell extender, will this work?

Anyone knows the thread of the 9N?

Did you check and see if a regular C cell will fit in the tube? The regular size C cells are both fatter and longer than sub-C...

Full C will not fit. It's pretty tight in there. Why would you want to go to a full C anyway? You can find nicad SC in 2.4 Ah capacity and nimh SC in 3.3 Ah capacity. Both well exceed the standard 1.8 Ah cells.

Sorry guys, I didn't physically checked /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif. I was trying to find an off-the-store-shelf cell for it for a worse case situation.

Why is SF still using 1.8Ah batteries when they could be using 2.4Ah's? Not that anyone knows the real answer to that, but still...

I suspect this is so they can run a trickle rate that allows a full recharge overnight or shift to shift. At least this is why Streamlight apparently matches the 1.8Ah cells to a 180mA trickle rate. Also, this 0.1C rate is about the max you want to run for trickle.

If SF were to offer 2.4Ah cells as retrofit, anyone who used them in a 180mA trickler would find that would not top off after a complete discharge. In reality, few people deplete a stick in normal use but I suspect they designed for "worst case."
