At DaFab's request, here is a first report on experimenting with putting an aspheric lens in an Aleph 1.
I got the lens from LedZep, but I have no idea where he got it. It's ~27mm in diameter, and sits nicely on the first ledge inside the Aleph 1 head. I put a thin o-ring in there to lift it a bit, so the Ti bezel ring would hold it in place.
Assembled, the top of the lens crown sits below the outer surface of the bezel ring, to it can be set down on its head without damaging the lens.
I'm experimenting with focus by advancing or retracting the light engine. I prefer to de-focus aspherics, because I don't like the image of the die in my beam. This wall shot is at about 15' and the hotspot is about 18" in diameter (rectangular diameter ;)).
