R5 led vs S2 led whats better ,brighter? Any difference in the color light? any all input would be great. looking to get jetbeam rrt-0 r5 or s2. I post this on rrt-0 thread no real answers.

The S2 is suppose to be 12% brighter, but I read some complaints of a greenish tint. The R5 has been a good all around performer.

The beam pattern is different?
S2 is brighter than R5 by approximately 7%.
S2 is, however, plagued with tint problem. In many cases people report that their S2 emitter has green tint, especially when run at lower currents. R5, on the other hand, is a proven bin that has very stable tint regardless of the amount of current fed to it.
Untrue. Both bins belong to the same type, the XP-G, and the differences in beam profiles are dependent on the reflectors.
Could be only in my mind, but yes. It could be because of the brighter center in S2 makes it look less floody. But I will probably never buy another light with an S2 in it, I just don't really care for them.
I'm using Preon II's as a reference since that's only FL's I have the same with the 2 led's mentioned, and I'm pretty sure they have the same reflectors.

I too, was torn between the R5 and S2 in the rrt-0 and read that even though the S2 was newer and brighter, the tint tended to lean towards green. However, the R5 has a tailswitch that is quite squishy and the S2 doesn't. I went with the R5 and other than the squishy switch (not a deal breaker), I couldn't be happier. Good luck.:)
Precision has a lot to do when it comes to reflectors. Even the slightest difference between alignment of the reflector and the emitter causes the same type of lights to have different profiles. It may not be caught by naked eye when you look down into the lens, but you can clearly see the difference when you shine the beam against a wall due to the massive magnification.
I've been through countless iTP A3 EOS, IlluminaTi CA1, TerraLUX LightStar 100, and none of them have the exact same beam patterns and profiles when matched up against another same light with the exact same emitter bins and reflectors. Hell, I've purchased at least a dozen LightStars in the past couple of months and their beam pattern all varied widely, some being wider and others tighter, and they all used the same emitter and TIR lens.
A while ago, I've done a beam comparison between two IlluminaTi CA1, one of them R5 and the other S2. S2 actually had a wider beam than R5.

Agreed that it's to do with reflectors.
I have had experience with [5] different Quarks: [ 2x ] AA2 Reg,[ 2x ] AA Tact. & AA2 Reg S2. They all have different reflectors, with AA2 Reg having the most diffused beam and S2 having the most tight beam. The S2 seems brighter because of the slightly less OP reflector, although my one was plagued with a green tint in every level except turbo. It was horrible and gave it away. My R5's have very nice white tints, no blue or green in sight.
The 7% increase is negligible and you won't notice it with the exact same lights/reflectors. The only mode I think you might notice it on is Moonlight, when your eyes are extremely sensitive to light output.
My advice, don't risk it, get R5.
Edit: I will say though, I have seen a greenish R5 in another Quark I forgot to mention. I also have a blueish Fenix LD20, which is uncomfortable to my eyes, but a cool tint nut might like it.

Wow thanks real good info from everyone thanks . Think I may go with r5 led. Anyone have rrt-0 ?
This will be my first real flashlight other than my mag lights.
Smooth reflector or orange peel?
Any other lights out there better overall than the jetbeam rrt-0 ?

I have the OP reflector on my RRT-0. If you are picky about beam quality, then get the OP reflector. If you need the throw definitely get the smooth reflector, but the RRT-0 does throw decently with the OP reflector. It is also my favorite EDC.

Hello FlashKat i see that your from anaheim CA is there any place local to get some hands on time jetbeam or any other brands? I live in riverside CA I would't mind the drive to the O.C. where i live the only thing i can find is fenix.
