Ranier vs Caribbean vs Mediteranian

For ease of carry especially with a pocket body, I would go for the Caribbean but I love the design of the Med/Rainier. I have all three and the Caribbean is the only one that I carry on a consistent basis. I really like the Mediterranean as a 2xAA cell light on the extra body and I am still waiting on a purchase of RCR123's to fully power the Rainier but it will run for a good day on a single Cr123. As for the beam profile, they are all pretty similar but I enjoy the extra spill of the Rainier/Med Reflector.

Basically, I think that they are nice single output lights and it all depends on your end usage in so far as carry ability is concerned and mine are Brass so my forearms are incredibly ripped.:D

FYI, it looks like Peak is offering up a P7 of the Rainier if I read that last post correctly. No experience with P7's yet and I am trying to limit my exposure to keep the flashlight beasty quiet.

I've ordered a Ti Caribbean, should be here soon.

As I neither know nor found out much about the Peaks, I thought that the output was always to be chosen and asked "efficient level" for the Caribbean...

Have yours all the maximum output? How does the Rainier run a good day on one cell? Unregulated? I think of getting one later (titanium...), but I don't use rechargeables, only primaries.

They have added a catalog on CD to my order, I hope I'll see clearer then. I also ordered a wide Eiger, level 6. Infos on the Eiger are better... :candle:

Hello Henk, I pulled the run time of a day,12hours on a primary CR123 at REDUCED OUTPUT, directly from the Peak sticky at the top of the Peak Forum page. I had heard that the output would be in the neighborhood of 400cp for the Rainier on a primary as opposed to 2000cp on the RCR123 battery configuration. As for output levels, Peak can get a little confusing by having lights that look alike but are of differing power levels. I believe that the reduced output is regulated although I am not certain of that or the quality of the regulation, ie:flat or semi regulated. Asking Curt or Robyn may be your best bet on tech information.

The Atlantic, Mediterranean, and the Rainier, all have the same body head configuration but each light is an actual power level/output difference so mine are all at stated power levels from the website. Peak could have just sold one light with three differing power levels in this style much like they do with the Baltic and the Pacific but as to why they didn't/don't is a mystery to me but being a Flashlight Geek, I don't mind surfing for the information. Their 5mm offerings come in different power levels as well but you may have the most up to date information because hopefully, they have sent you a CD of their "Current Offerings" of which I am sure that we would all like to see should you be able to post any information on the subject.

Check the Sticky at the top of the forum for a lot of details and then you can check your hopefully new information against what we already have here.

Have fun and I hope that this helps!

rainier is direct drive. probably looking at 20-25 lumens on cr123a and 150+ lumens on rcr123 depending on the bin of the led..it's pretty bright.

looks like an 18500 body will be available soon. 18500 + mediteranean
would be a lot of bright regulated runtime..but as for pocketability..the
carribean is one of my favs. it just slips easily into your pocket.

buy both!

I checked the sticky and also surfed for any information i could get, perhaps I missed a few things. If i understood you right, asking for less output on the Caribbean may mean that I'll get a Pacific or a Mediterranean? Just joking...

"Talk to Robyn or Curt" seems to be the key. Well, I mailed with Curt, got some informations about my lights, but I understand they don't have time to go into details. As for phoning, I already started a discussion I didn't want in another thread. So, I keep it short, I'm from Luxembourg, understand pretty well written english, can write a few sentences too, but a conversation (over telephone) would be problematic for both understanding and being understood. So, I preffer to collect the necessary informations and do a precise order by mail later on.

I'm looking forward to get my first Peaks, perhaps the postman will ring the bell today...
