I finally got it!!!!!!!!
20 hours of bright white light
Does any one know what Luxeon it has in it?
A Luxeon Star or Luxeon Emitter
What is the difference between Star and Emitter? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I`m pretty sure it uses a 1 watt LS...the term emitter, as I know it, refered to a side emitter. But could be used loosly to describe any light source. Glad you like it!

I just looked at mine while it was on (ouch) to try to see if there is a pcb board in there, but I can't tell.

It's a great light for the price.

Nothing much in there. I took one appart recently, it's basically an NX05 and a luxeon star (Q1KW for mine) stuck into an oversized head. No PCB. It's got a resistor in the tail to limit the current. I've got pictures, if anyone wants them...

How did you get the Reactor head open?
Maybe I could stick a 3W in there heh heh.

Having the resistor in the tail cap is nice because you can easily bypass it with some aluminum foil. When I put in fresh batteries, I let them run through the resistor for a while, then I put in some aluminum foil and direct drive it.

Ok, pictures going up here:
WARNING! FLASHLIGHT BUTCHERY! Rated E for extreme flashlight butchery! Not for the faint of heart.

As I said, pretty simple construction, just the luxeon sitting in a little plastic part with the NX05 on top of it. You can't see very well from the pictures, but there is a sort of wavy groove along the inside of the lower ring that pushes the entire head assembly in and out of contact with the battery.

btw, the cutting along the side was not actually necessary, since the plastic wasn't joined there anyway. All you really need to do to take one appart is to get that aluminium ring off the front.

Thank you for the pics... the things that are done in the name of flashlight advancement. Any plans for the remains of the light? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

How does the unit with the star and optics compare in size to a Surfire P60 lamp assembly. Any hope of shoe-horning on into the head of a G2?
Thanks
Patrick

Yes koala, it most certainly is DEAD! (but not a DED yet... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif)

Xrunner: The Luxeon is certainly going to move on to greener pastures (it's kind of green itself, so... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif), but I have no plans whatsoever for the body. Maybe I could thread it for a custom machined aluminium head...

Patrick: It's a bit smaller. I'm almost certain you would be able to fit it into a G2... it's just exactly 1 inch in diameter, and a little over an inch tall, but you could easily cut it down to less than 3/4 of an inch if need be. The nice thing is that it's a perfectly centered optic on the luxeon. It would need some sort of regulation if you were putting it onto a P60, but there would be plenty of space. The only thing I would worry about is how you center it in the head...

Patrick: I've got an extra one if you want it... I'll PM you...

Lux: All you really have to do to get it open is to get the retaining ring up front off. The plastic isn't actually joined, but I, being a little dremel happy, went ahead and cut the plastic before I realized that... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif You might even be able to pop that front aluminium ring off without cutting it - a non-destructive opening...

Those are awesome pictures.
Thanks a million for posting them.
It's pretty sobering to see a likeable flashlight ripped to shreds like that. RIP

Awww, the poor thing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif
Makes me want to go grab a box of Cleanex(sp) because the pictures of flashlight butchery are kinda saddening. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Oh no... look's what started. My reactors are sitting over there just begging to undergo "experimental surgery" (/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif) to have the chance to live in a SF body. We should have known this was going to happen... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif
