Really worth $1400?

Doesn't work for me, I wouldn't buy it. Leans too far in the art direction, and as people have said, copper isn't the most functional material for something like this. That said I'm a bit surprised at the replies in this thread.

Who would even want to spend over $500 for a flashlight (or maybe $200)? Or maybe over $1000 for a watch, or $20,000 for a car?

Different people, different priorities and different tastes. I think a lot of us here live in glass houses, in one way or another.

I've spent over $500 for one light. I've spent over $20,000 for my ride. Once my job takes off and I'm able to save up, I plan to buy an MKII custom-made watch. A watch that exhibits excellent Swiss quality, and yet will be truly unique. Getting it for just over $1,000 will be a bargain. And will be something I can pass down, while knowing that literally no one else in the world will own the exact same model.

I also have reasons behind why I spent over $500 on one light, along with why I spent over $20,000 for my car. If someone asked "why?," I would give them detailed reasons for each one. Yeah, different people have different tastes. Some have good taste, while others have bad taste. I still recall one so-called artist's interpretation of Art. He took a religious symbol, placed it in a jar of urine, and labeled it Art. His investors were made up of of rich folks who had far more money than good taste. Here's someone who claims to be an artist. Produces garbage that anyone with good taste or an appreciation of Art can clearly recognize as garbage. But if you have money, and no sense of good taste, but you want to appear sophisticated; you nod and blindly agree that it's Art. Even to the point of buying it and displaying it in your home.

Granted, this copper flashlight is far more tasteful than a jar of urine with something floating in it. Still, a person either has good taste or they don't. That's the difference.

Well, my post wasn't directed at you, but since you've put a direct reply to it...

In the same way, I've bought (and still have) a LunaSol 20. Perhaps I should have made a clearer link to flashlights/watches/cars and glass houses.

But for you to say you know what's good sense or taste for every person on the planet on something this subjective, well I suppose we'll just have to disagree there, even if both this light and the art example you gave aren't to my taste. :shrug:

That at least, is very possible. your average CR123 cell has a 1500mAh capacity at a nominal voltage of 3v. assuming this light has a relatively efficient buck-converter, it should draw roughly 750mA for a 1400mA drive to the LED which will produce about 430 lumens at the emitter assuming they're using a good bin.

That gives you about an hour and three quarters of "full-power" runtime and another half-hour or so of diminishing output :)

You asked a couple of questions. I thought they deserved honest answers. Hence, the reply. To clarify, I don't think I have a monopoly on good taste. I don't tell folks what they should like. I don't claim to be an expert on high Art. Certainly there are elements of Art which are subjective. However, I feel some things are not. For example, the one I mentioned above. I honestly fail to see how anyone claiming to have good taste could possibly enjoy something as blatant as a religious symbol floating in a jar of human waste product. Controversial? Yes. But not very tasteful.

Also, I see you have good taste as well. Some things are just blatant in terms of good or bad taste. Once again, just wanted to clarify that point. Thank you.

Enough said. We should not be slamming another makers product when they can not respond, particularly when the issue is dollar amount. Remember that there have been threads knocking some of our premier titanium flashlight makers, but at least they could respond. Let the market determine the value of a given product, via real life reviews. Thread closed.
