I have been looking for a rechargeable flashlight for some time and my so far pick is new Fenix RC15, well presented with all accessories, solidly built, powerful 350 lumens on high and up to 860 on turbo mode. The other contender is Streamlight Stinger DS LED up to 350 lumens on high. What I like about Fenix model is its look, a bit more aggressive, smaller 160mm (small enough to carry all the time) and both features I suppose make it almost a tactical flashlight. In fact I think it is called LEO flashlight. I guess a lot of tactical flashlight enthusiasts will disagree as it is lacking tail cap switch and has variable light options which will make you wonder whether you last time you left it on high or low. But apparently it has a memory and providing you always switch the flashlight on hide mode it will turn always turn on high, thus serving quite well as an defensive tool (bright light intimidation factor). While a tail cap switch would be nice but I like variable light options as I might use it in different conditions (camping) or environment. So to me is seems a very good versatile flashlight and if really required could be used as defensive tool. Not sure what the front glass is really made from (?) Stinger is built from unbreakable polycarbonate non scratch coating. But it is quite big 220mm and I would rather use my own charger in this instance. However Fenix has very handy car charger which you can fix into your car hand rest. I read some posts that many people prefer their own chargers? Thinking about an emergency situation, earthquake when there might be no power for a couple of days having a car charger is something unbeatable to me. I think I also looked at Surefire R1 Recharable but it costs two times my budget which is $150-$200 .
Anyway would appreciate any comments on my above thoughts, and your suggestions.
Thank you
Paul

Welcome to CPF. Just a caution, we do not encourage comments regarding using flashlights as defensive devices. Discussions regarding flashlights as illumination tools is just fine.

If size is not an issue, the mag lite rechargeable flashlight can be modded for much higher performance
