I'm in Madison Wisconsin and there is a Gander Mt. store here. Went in as we will get one soon in Indianapolis. They had the usual suspects plus the Browning High dollar (oops intensity) series. Nicely built but overpriced. They also have the Nuwai/Brookstone/Streamlight LED and incandescent series of lights. One was rechargeable with a 3 cell 4/5 SC stick. Inside the deep reflectored SE star is a circuit board. Plus what looks like a thermocouple to provide over heat protection. When I get home I can post some pics and see if it runs on 2 C cells as I don't recall if 4/5 SC is smaller than standard C diameter.

Oh it was $40 the same as the 3C longer version.

Smart charger (but slow), AC/DC cordsets and a 1200mah stick pack of standard design that will charge up in my Maha 777 just fine too. Can't wait for G-M to open in Indy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/broke.gif

Updated pictures

Here is the light and the charger and wall wart.

And the reflector. Deep smooth with a Side Emitter. And the star exposed. Note with some difficulty what I think is a bimetal thermal sensor between the two power leads sandwiched under the star on the plate.

And the beam shot against a faux woodgrain particle board panel from the 50's

There is a circuit behind the star but maybe in a couple of weeks I will have time to get at it. There is a coil so there may be some step up or regulation of some kind.

The beam has some artifacts radiating out and the leads are visible from the die. A stippled reflector would have been a better match.

Ya gotta love Imagestation. There are pics there really. In focus, well lit and all. Honest. I will be back in a week to fix this.

I just set up an album here Gander Mountain Hopefully it is not protected. You may have to look at the index. Grrr. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
