Hello to cpf. I have been checking this place out for a few days and have learned a lot. Thanks to all who help out by sharing information with the web.
I will answer the questions from the sticky that I have an opinion on. I am in search of a LED headlamp to buy online that will provide good color differentiation at short distances (around 1m). I would guess that the best temp for distinguishing color would be around the 3000k-4000k range but if your experience tells you otherwise I would love to hear your input. My budget is under $100. I also typically use aa, aaa or CR123 batteries though I am not opposed to other options. I would like at least two power levels, one for close tasks and one for walking around or searching for a dropped item. I would also like the light to be a flood rather than point light.
The headlamp will be in the trunk of my car most of the time with my first aid kit. I am no first responder but I have been the first non-gawker to be at an accident and have helped until the pros arrived. So far I have never had to do this at night but if I did, I do not believe that my current headlamp would allow me to see colors as well as I would like to. Also, it concentrates all of the light in one spot whereas I think a floodlight style would be better especially if it had low and high settings.
The first light I was considering was the Streamlight Trident with the xenon light to give nice warm light but I do not like how quickly that it will eat up batteries. Since checking out this forum I have heard lots of great things about the Zebralight h51 and am considering the h51w which I assume is the same quality just a tad warmer. I would love to hear all of your recommendations and not just from the zebra fan-base.
